The Spiritual Danger Of Being In A “Comfort Zone”

By David J. Stewart | January 2015

Psalms 139:23-24, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Why is it that some churches permit their female members to wear pants? The pastor doesn't preach against women wearing pants. I've heard pastors teach that women should dress modestly, yet they dare not condemn any certain forms of attire (like pants and miniskirts). I can tell you unequivocally that any Christian woman who dresses sensually, provocatively or indecently is either immature or backslidden in the Lord.

Why is it that many Christians have Netflix on their televisions and even the satanic HBO (Hebrew Box Office) movies? I'll tell you why, it's because everybody has their own “Comfort Zone.” This is the lifestyle and beliefs that one feels comfortable with. This is why so many churches today are using the counterfeit Bible versions, they feel comfortable with them. I love what Evangelist Phil Kidd said, “The pastor's job is to comfort the afflicted; but the evangelist's job is to afflict the comforted!” Amen to that!

We need more evangelists who truly walk with the Lord as they should and preach the Word of God. I'm so sick of seeing evangelist's wives wearing pants, and an evangelist that can't preach his way out of a wet paperbag. We need evangelists who rock the boat, put people on the spot for God, force a decision, and make church members uncomfortable by saying it like it really is. We need evangelists who preach the truth that the 911 attacks were an inside job, and that a group of thug criminals have hi-jacked our government!

We need evangelists who will preach the truth that the true coming nation of Israel belongs to God, but the present state of Israel is of the Devil. Just as Abraham and Sarah took matters into their own hands, trying to force the hand of God, so have the synagogue of Satan attempted to force God's hand by recreating their own state of Israel. We are now living in the Times Of The Gentiles as taught in Luke 21:24, “And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

What is your Comfort Zone? Dr. Hyles has a helpful MP3 sermon titled, “Which New Is Right?,” in which he explains that it is always ok to move toward the right (spiritual improvement), but never to the left (sinful compromise). All the new Bible versions are on the left. They are corrupting the churches! Women wearing pants is on the left. Back in the year 1900 you couldn't find an American woman wearing pants except in a brothel. It is a shame that Moody Bible Institute and Bob Jones University permit their female students to wear pants. The Word of God ought to determine our moral standards and convictions, and not cultural changes and trends. The homosexual agenda is bullying its way into many of the churches, which are no longer genuine Biblical churches. A 501c3 state-licensed organization is not a church. A building is not a church. A religious gathering is not a church. Only a local gathering of born-again believers who gather in Jesus' name is a New Testament Church.

Leaving Our Comfort Zone for God

My friend, we all need to get out of our Comfort Zone! Or better said, don't ever become accustomed to living in a certain Comfort Zone. Always be willing to move to the right for God. You women who wear pants, why don't you decide to become a lady who honors the Lord Jesus Christ by wearing a dress? People automatically associate a woman in a modest dress with virtue, chastity and decency. I'd rather turn a man's head for the right reason ladies. It's better that a man take a second glance at you because he is impressed that you are dressed effeminately, than to glance twice to lust upon your unclothed whorish body. You must answer to God for every lust caused by your indecent apparel. Think about that! Many saved women won't have any rewards in Heaven, because of their revealing clothing. God knows your heart and why you dress the way you do. You cannot fool God.

And you men who are comfortable drinking your liquid devil (booze) and smoking your cancer sticks, you need to get rid of that junk and live for Jesus!!! I thank God that I've never smoked one cigarette or drank one sip of beer. Praise God! I've got my faults, but self-destruction is not one of them. Cigarette smoking won't send you to Hell, it'll just make you smell like you've been there! No Christian should smoke cancer sticks. Smoking is a disgusting, vile, habit. The great preacher, Charles H. Spurgeon enjoyed smoking cigars. Yes, it's true. The Bible teaches in 1st Corinthians 3:16-17 that the believer's body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and we ought to treat our body as such. That was Spurgeon's Comfort Zone.

It is a shame that so many Christians have become obese from lack of self-control over their eating habits. Pastor Dwight L. Moody weighed 399 pounds when he died. See, you didn't realize that us preachers are all so imperfect. We are all a lot more sinful than we realize. Yet God loves us and understands that we are mere flesh and blood, made from the dust of the earth. Psalms 103:14 was the favorite Bible verse of Coystal Hyles, Dr. Hyles' mother . . .

Psalms 103:10-14, “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

Isn't that beautiful? Yes, it certainly is!

The carnal believers at the Church at Corinth were in their Comfort Zone, allowing sin to go unchecked in the church. The pastor wasn't preaching against sin as he ought. The church at Corinth probably resembles most churches today in America in 2015. The church members had problems with a lot of bickering, forming cliques, suing each other, showing up drunk at the Lord's Supper, eating meats offered to idols and even living in fornication in the church. The Apostle Paul called them carnal, babes in Christ, and said he couldn't even talk with them about spiritual issues because they were in their Comfort Zone.

Paul rebuked them and made them all feel very uncomfortable.

1st Corinthians 3:1-2, “And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.”

This sounds like many carnal pastors today who are complacent in their Comfort Zone and you cannot talk to them about spiritual matters, because they don't want to hear about it. What they're doing works, so why risk losing money? If they have a big religious school, lots of people attending church on Sunday, making plenty of money, why ruin a good thing by warning people about the modern corrupt Bible versions? Why offend feminist women by preaching the truth that ladies shouldn't wear pants. Why offend peers in the ministry by preaching against the heresy of Lordship Salvation? There's a pathetic attitude in today's churches that says a pastor should only preach the basic Bible doctrines, and then let people decide for themselves how morally they want to dress. Honestly, I hate a DEAD CHURCH!!!

When you attend a church and see the women wearing bluejeans and dress pants, you know they are in their spiritual Comfort Zone. They have stopped growing in the Lord somewhere along the way, because the church's official position is that they permit pants on their female staff members and school faculty. It is wrong. It's difficult enough for Christian men to live holy these days (1st Peter 2:11), without making it even harder when female staff members at church dress inappropriately. Worst of all, such backslidden and carnal women just don't care. And shame on that church's henpecked pastor who fails to address the problem. Morality is still important to God, whether people believe it or not.

What Sin or Weight is Besetting You?

Please examine your life right now, what are the things that you are comfortable with, that may not be acceptable to the Lord. Hebrews 12:1, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” Every Christian believer is likened in the Holy Bible to a runner in a race, specifically a marathon. The goal is not to finish first; but rather, to finish the course set before us by God. There are sins which will sidetrack us. And then there are weights which are not necessarily sinful, but they will hold us back and slow us down from serving God.

What is it that's keeping you from serving the Lord Jesus Christ as you should? There is something that we can all do for God, but it starts with DESIRE. Abiding in the inspired Words of God ought to burn a passion in our hearts to serve the Lord in every way possible, while we still have the opportunity to do so. This life is short. Time is running out! You and I will be in eternity before we realize it. What are you doing for Jesus Christ? Get involved in a local church. I prefer Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches (IFBC), but it doesn't have to be. There's no such thing as “The Baptist Church”; but rather, just the Church! But we have to call ourselves something, so I prefer Baptist churches [that is, the one's who don't embrace the homosexual agenda like 5,100 American Baptist Convention (ABCUSA) churches do]. What a sad thing!

Pastor J. Vernon McGee (1904-1988) accurately and Biblically teaches concerning the nameless Church . . .

“But I do believe we see the setting of a stage today, when action will begin when the Church is removed from this earth. Now the reason the date's not given here is that the Church is dateless, nameless, timeless. You see, we are heavenly people—have no name, but some of you folk thought it was Baptist, and some others of you thought that the name of the Church was Presbyterian, and even some of you thought it was Methodist, and some of you thought it was Independent; but I have news for you, the Church has no name!”

God wants us to enjoy this life, just so long as we always include Him in everything that we think, say or do. God doesn't want to be first in our life, because then He's not second and third, and so forth. Jesus wants to be a part of everything in our life. A woman who wears pants is putting herself first instead of Jesus, because 1st Timothy 2:9 commands Christian ladies to dress in MODEST APPAREL. Also, Deuteronomy 22:5 forbids a woman from wearing men's clothing (pants and business suits), and vise versa. I was disgusted the other day to see photos online of 1976 world Olympic champion, Bruce Jenner dressed in drag with women's nail-polish on his nails. Talk about creepy!

Perhaps buying a home will weigh you down with a steep mortgage payment, which will hinder you from supporting your church and being all that you can be for God. Many Christians are in financial woes because they are trying to keep up with the heathen American lifestyle which requires a vacation to Florida once or twice a year, a brand new vehicle, new clothes, dining out regularly and lots of electronic toys, gadgets and the monthly service charges to use them. No one can help the poor, support missionaries and tithe as they ought who's in massive financial debt to the banks! They want you in woeful debt!!!

Dr. Jack Hyles preaches a very practical MP3 sermon titled, “HASTY FRUIT,” in which he advises young couples on their finances. Brother Hyles grew up in east Texas during The Great Depression of the 1930's. His family lived in a small home with two rooms. That's two rooms total! There was no living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and then additional bedrooms. They only had TWO ROOMS! Their bathroom was an outside outhouse, which you had to brave through the winter cold to get to. Jack Hyles didn't eat an egg, see a flushable toilet, eat a hamburger or own his own pair of shoes until he was a teenager. His sister bought him his first bicycle when he was 13. When Brother Hyles got married, his wife made a dress from a potato-sack. They had very little, but they had godliness with contentment. 1st Timothy 6:6-8, “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

I've heard Brother Hyles say in sermons that he wouldn't change his poor upbringing for all the wealth in the world, because it taught him humility and gratitude for God's blessings. We need a revival of practical living in America. We need a revival of save first and buy later, instead of enjoy first and pay later. I love the old saying which goes, “Use it up, wear it out; make it do, do without!”

Our Churches Have Become Way Too Comfortable

Ladies and gentlemen, our churches are so messed-up these days because we're all in our Comfort Zones. We've become too comfortable with the world's music in our churches. We've become complacent toward the onslaught of new Bible versions which have flooded into the churches. We've become indifferent toward the heresies of Zionism and a Young Earth creeping into the churches. Our churches have become comfortable with women wearing pants to church. We've become used to the world. It ought not be this way. Our pastors are far too relaxed these days, lacking the authoritative preaching that we desperately need. We've gotten too COMFORTABLE!!! Consequently, we're losing our churches. We need many more evangelists to go around the country and afflict the comforted in our churches. Somebody needs to afflict the comforted pastors who are at ease on Zion. Somebody needs to get mad and cry wolf!

I hope that you will sincerely search your heart, and ask God in prayer to show you if there are areas of your life which need improving. I know most of you ladies don't care what other people think about how you dress, but God certainly does. You should care about what others think, because God cares about what they think. When a lewd woman causes husbands to struggle with lust, God notices and hates that. Such struggles lead to adultery, divorce and all sorts of sins. This all happens because some evil woman doesn't care how she dresses herself. She doesn't care, obviously. But God cares, and that unrepentant woman will weep bitter tears and be horrified when she is faced with the consequences of her wickedness on judgment day before God. Christian women have become far too comfortable with wearing immodest clothing these days. That all started with the heathen world.

Our churches have become soft, lagging behind, going back, becoming complacent in their Comfort Zones of the prosperous American lifestyle. Evangelist Billy Sunday said that a hundred years ago, and he was right! Churches don't just change on a whim; but rather, little changes take place over time, and that's how Satan ruins them. How did our churches become filled with satanic Bible versions that remove the Godhead, remove the word “begotten” from John 3:16, say Jesus is not God in Philippians 2:6, and remove every mention of people worshipping Jesus? I'd burn any of the new so-called better Bible versions in a heartbeat. I'll take the good ole proven and trustworthy King James Bible!!!

If you want a corrupt Bible who had a homosexual as chairman of the Old Testament translating committee, then knock yourself out with a New International Version (NIV). Why do you think they completely removed the word “sodomite” from the NIV? Honestly, how could Biblica hire a homosexual to lead the translating committee of the Old Testament? Is it a trifle matter to you and your pastor? We should all be very alarmed! Tragically, many Christians are in their Comfort Zones and don't care. I don't ever want to become indifferent toward doing things the wrong way, or teachings that are flawed and incorrect. The Bible is important. The plan of salvation is important. I can't believe how many professed Christians are completely oblivious to heresy creeping into our churches. Most believers prioritize friendship, cooperation, getting along and not offending anyone over Biblical truth, which is terrible.

We all need hard, uncompromising, leather-lunged, Christ-honoring, shingle-pullin', barn-stormin', hell-raising, window-rattlin', say-it-like-it-is, preaching to drive us out of our Comfort Zones in our churches! Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

“Nobody can love God who doesn't love sinners!”
