Americans Are
Obsessed With Outer Bodily Beauty
The Bible Teaches To Prioritize Inner Beauty
By David J. Stewart
Romans 3:7-8, “For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.”
American culture is absolutely obsessed with sex, the human body and outer appearance. I recently watched a lengthy TV advertisement by Cindy Crawford for their “Meaningful Beauty System Advanced.” They claim that some doctor in France named Dr. Sebagh grows his own special proprietary melons that posses special attributes to restore a youthful look to facial skin. I am not disputing their claims. Quite frankly, if I were a woman I'd order it just to try it. It looks interesting.
However, the Lord impressed upon my heart to write this article, to address the obsession in the United States with outer beauty, appearance and sex. We are a carnally-minded society! All I kept thinking about during the advertisement was how sad it is that inner beauty isn't important these days to most women. You can't make money off of inner beauty, because no one cares about pleasing God. The Bible plainly teaches that a Christian woman ought to prioritize inner beauty
1st Peter 3:1-6, “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.”
American society worships the body. In 2010, a shocking 308,000 U.S. women had breast enhancement surgery. The Bible teaches in Genesis 1:31 that everything God made was “VERY GOOD”; yet, spoiled Americans aren't happy with the way God naturally made them. Men want longer male organs. Women want larger breasts. Sadly, statistics show that women with larger breasts on average are more likely to be hired and receive higher wages than women with smaller breast sizes. Plastic surgery is epidemic in the United States, and sadly, worldwide these days. The world has gone insane, following after the crazed sex-culture in America. No one is satisfied with the way God made them. They want it bigger, longer, changed, et cetera.
Bald men are paying tens-of-thousands of dollars to restore their hair. Yet men with healthy hair are shaving their heads bald. Women are having their nose trimmed, their chin reduced, their eyelids replaced, their face injected with fetus material, et cetera. It's whacko! I heard in the news this week about a 33-Year-Old Young Man Who Had $100,000 Of Plastic Surgery Done To Look Like Justin Bieber. Men want to become women, and women want to become men, surgically!!! These are the consequences of unisex perversion.
I say be happy with who God made you. If you're bald, be bald and beautiful. I read about a man in Canada whose face is covered with hair. He looks like the wolfman. A plastic surgeon offered to remove the hair, but he said nope, I like the way God made me. Be content with the way God made you. Don't allow the Devil's Madison Street crowd, television or some homosexual fashion-designer in France to dictate what you're supposed to look like.
If you're fat, we'll, you can do something about that by being careful in your diet. Very few people are fat beyond control. The average American has a disgusting attitude, which affects the way they dress, spend, eat and do everything else. We have become an out-of-control society! It all starts with attitude, which is affected by TV, video games, internet, movies, magazines, books, et cetera. This is why getting the Word of God into children's minds and hearts is so important. Romans 10:17 says that faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. A Godless society is a reckless society!
Children need to be taught that character is more important than talent. Talent seeks attention, but wisdom pays attention. No wonder most marriages are ending up in divorce when everything nowadays is about sex, sex, sex. Television is all about looks, appearance and sex. The Bible emphasizes spiritual character, wisdom and the fear of God.
