To Walk With God, We Must Agree With God

By David J. Stewart | March 2014

Amos 3:3, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

I do not hate anyone, and I mean that. No Christian can be right with God and hate anyone; but it is also equally true that no believer can walk with God and please Him by faith who does not hate sin. Jesus hated iniquity (Hebrews 1:9). Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” God hates sin and so must we as Christians if we desire to be friends with Him and fellowship.

This is why we are told in James 4:8-10, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” No one who leads a double-life can please God.

Walking With God In Agreement

Dead churches don't preach because they don't have the fire of TRUTH in them! Brother, I get worked up over the TRUTH! As a Christian, the Holy Spirit in me compels me to preach! To the same extent that we love righteousness, to that same degree we're going to hate iniquity (Hebrews1:9). People don't hate sin because they don't love righteousness. You cannot truly walk with God, Who is righteous and holy, without hating sin yourself. Amos 3:3 says that two must be AGREED in order to walk together!!! Amos 3:3, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

This is why we read in James 4:8-9, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” If you truly want to draw near to God to walk with Him, then you and I need to share God's burden over sin and lost souls, becoming afflicted with God's sorrow and tears over the Lost.

This is why we read in Psalms 126:5-6, “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” No man who leads a double-life can expect to walk with God. No man who harbors filth and hatred in his heart can expect to walk with God. All the Lord expects is sincerity, a heart of faith and a desire to “LET THIS MIND BE IN YOU WHICH WAS ALSO IN CHRIST JESUS” (Philippians 2:5... “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others” (Philippians 2:4). That's how Jesus lived, that is, He spent His life considering the needs, burdens, problems, hardships, feelings and spiritual needs of OTHERS.

The Sweetness Of Walking With Jesus

There is nothing sweeter than walking with God, and there is nothing more lonely than living in sin and knowing that you are out of fellowship with the Lord. I am speaking about fellowship here and not sonship. We become an adopted son of God by receiving Christ as our personal Savior (John 1:12); and then we follow on in believer's discipleship and fellowship with the Lord by obeying the Scriptures. In order to obey the Scriptures we must first “SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES” to know them (John 5:39). Amen! By searching the Scriptures, we get to know Jesus. John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” Revelation 19:10, “...for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” The Bible contains 27% prophecy; whereas the Muslim Koran contain 0% (that's right, zilch, nada, NONE!). This is but one of thousands of compelling evidences that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.

Romans 10:17 teaches that FAITH comes by hearing the Word of God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that only by FAITH can God be pleased. Thus, if we desire to please God, then we need to absolutely saturate our daily life with the precious, life-changing, infallible, preserved, inerrant, unchanging, eternal, inspired Word of God. Faith Cometh By Hearing, And Hearing By The Word Of God (listen to Alexander Scourby read the Bible in 75 hours!). I recently heard the testimony of a dear Christian lady who was so sick in the hospital that she couldn't even read the Bible. A good friend set up a laptop computer beside her hospital bed with a cd playing of Alexander Scourby reading the King James Bible. Isn't that a blessing? That's a godly friend too!

It is very easy in this electronic generation to get so caught up continually using all the gizmos, gadgets and toys available to us nowadays that we never “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD” as commanded in Psalms 46:10. When we use computers to write blogs, or talk/text on a cellphone, or engage in social networking on the internet, WE ARE IN CONTROL. Sadly, the Lord would have to make an appointment to get most of us to spend just a few minutes with Him each week. There are 86,400 seconds in each day. Have we thanked God with just one of them? May we all “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD!” Jesus is precious!!!

Proverbs 14:34, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Mark 1:15: “...repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me." —John 5:39
