The Mirror of God's Word
By David J. Stewart
Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The Bible is the most important part of a Christian's life. The Word of God teaches that the Bible is A MIRROR of the soul. James 1:23-25 is an amazing passage of Scripture . . .
James 1:23-25, “For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
Hebrews 4:12 supports this teaching, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The Bible pierces even between the soul and spirit, shining the Light of God's Word upon our very thoughts and intents of the heart. Nothing in this world can pierce into the soul of a human being and reveal who we really are except God's precious Word.
Every believer's life should be bathed in the Scriptures, mediating therein “day and night” as Psalm 1:2 teaches. Without the Bible, you will go astray and forget what MANNER of person you are, i.e., a dirty, rotten, guilty, hell-deserving sinner!
Most people errantly think they know the answers, errantly think they know who they are, errantly think they are going to Heaven in their Godless self-righteousness; but they are dead wrong, devoid of the truth of God's Word. Most people are fools! Most people think they are good; but God says we are all bad (Romans 3:10,23). Most people think they are going to Heaven because they're doing the best they can; but God says they'll burn in Hell in their best efforts (Isaiah 64:6; Matthew 15:8; Mark 7:6-13). Most people think that the Pope is God's servant; but the Pope is a servant of Satan, the Prince of Darkness (2nd Corinthians 11:13-15; 1st Timothy 4:1-3; Matthew 23:9). Catholicism is of the Devil.
The Bible is a mirror of the soul, revealing the thoughts and intents of our heart. Psalm 119:105 refers to the Bible as a “Lamp” unto our feet. Beware of anyone who attempts to guide you in spiritual matters without providing Scriptural support. I wouldn't trust the advice of anyone who ignores the Scriptures, like Dr. Phil or Oprah Winfrey. King David didn't look to others to educate him in the Scriptures, he mediated in the Scriptures day and night (Psalm 1:2). David pondering over what he read and sought the answers for himself.
One of the biggest evils in America is the sin of divorce. In nearly every case, the person filing for divorce seeks for corrupt pastors and marriage meddlers to alleviate their guilt by misinterpreting the Bible. I've seen this my whole life. It's sickening. Don't look to others to pervert the Bible in an attempt to justify the sin of abandoning your spouse. You are a cowardly liar, quitter and horrible person for leaving your spouse. Jesus taught unlimited forgiveness (Matthew 18:22). If people would SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES for themselves, then they'd see what MANNER of person they are as James 1:24 teaches and they'd stay with their spouse, instead of self-righteously filing for divorce, breaking your marriage vows and quitting.
Don't listen to people! Let the Bible be a mirror into your soul as God intended. The fact that so many people seek advice on divorce from other people shows that they don't want to hear what God has to say in the Scriptures! If you look hard enough, you'll find people who will attempt to justify anything with the Bible. Carter Heyward is a feminist theologian who wants to make abortion a Sacrament in the Church. Take about corrupt and offbase! Anything can be justified if your heart is not right with God. Albeit, you cannot escape the mirror of God's Word if you continueth therein in the Scriptures. You'll never become what God wants you to be until you study the Bible and search the Scriptures for yourself.
Study the Bible for yourself. Think for yourself. I've known many people to make unwise decisions because someone twisted the Bible around and lied to them. This is exactly what the serpent (i.e., the Devil, Revelation 20:2) did to Eve in the Garden of Eden. Satan misinterpreted what God had said. Don't trust your own feelings nor listen to what others have to say. Let the Bible be the Final Authority. The Bible will pierce into your soul and heart. No one else can do this. We need to stop listening to what other people have to say and start listening to God.
Your friends, carnally-minded people and your family will likely support you even when your wrong; but God's Word will show you what MANNER OF MAN you are (James 1:24). The Word of God will reveal the thoughts and intents of your heart as Hebrews 4:12 teaches. If you want to find someone to sympathize or agree with you, that is easy to do. But if you want to please God, then you need to open the Bible and search for THE TRUTH. Just as James 1:24 states, those who forget about the Scriptures also FORGET the truth about them self.
The world is filled with religious people who have churchianity without Christianity. Our churches are filled with self-righteous hypocrites who destroy marriages, divorce their own spouses and gossip continually. It is tragic that most churches are as phony as can be, having only a superficial form of spirituality that is only skin deep. The world is dying for Christians who are real, who walk with God in the Scriptures, who refuse to gossip in self-righteousness and genuinely care about others and the souls of unbelievers. Stop playing church!
Most Christians have been programmed with some religious teachings; but they are woefully ignorant of the truth of God's Word. Those who abide in the Word will have grief and a burden over lost souls (Psalm 126:5-6; John 15:5). Those believers who view them self in the MIRROR of the Word will hesitate from gossiping, condemning and putting others down. Those believers who draw near unto God (James 4:8) will care, for God cares (1st Peter 5:7). Caring is the hallmark quality of being a Christian who loves the Lord. Most believers don't care and are adrift in their 501c3 State-licensed religion. Evil abounds amongst the eerily silent apostate churches of America.
May the MIRROR of God's Word discern the thoughts and intents of our heart and cause us to become Christlike, aggressive about soul-winning, willing to forgive instead of being self-righteous, concerned about the blatant crimes being committed by our nation's leaders and to become what God wants us to be!
