Killing Others With Gossip!

By David J. Stewart | October 2013

Proverbs 11:9, “An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.”

Romans 2:1, “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”

1st Timothy 5:24, “Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.”

Lauryn Hill sings in her hit song, “KILLING ME SOFTLY,” the lyrics, “With his words killing me softly.” WITH HIS WORDS KILLING ME SOFTLY!!! Boy, if that doesn't describe gossip I don't know what does! When you gossip about others, and we're all guilty of it at one time or another, we are killing both the person we are gossiping about, and also the person that we are telling the gossip to. Sad to say, gossip is a cheap form of entertainment for most people. Pastor Jack Hyles used to wisely say that great minds talk about ideas, good minds talk about things and weak minds talk about people. So true!

Please listen to the following blistering needful preaching by Pastor Danny Castle titled, THE SIN OF GOSSIPING!!!

God hates gossip and so should we. I've learned that the best way to avoid gossip is to cut it off at the pass, that is, intercept the ball. When someone mentions a person's name, I immediately say something good about that person if I can think of one good thing. There's always something good about everyone if you care enough to look for it. If I can't think of something good or I know the person is troublesome, then I'll change the subject. Usually the person doing the gossip will get the point. If however, the gossiper is bold and insists on gossiping about someone, then I'll come right out and be direct, telling them that I don't like gossip. Some people criticize on rare occasion when having a bad day, whereas others criticize continually because they are in a sinful state of being critical. Anytime that we condemn others, we are condemning our self the Bible says...

Romans 2:1, “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”

It is our sinful human nature to gossip. When someone hurts us, or hurts our feelings, or we just don't like that person for no particular reason, we feel better by saying bad things about that person. One of the greatest forms of injustice is not liking someone. Gossip is a form of verbal assault. The Godless newsmedia claims to have a right to gossip, but they don't have that right. Gossip ruins lives! The Bible teaches to DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU (Matthew 7:12). This is called “THE GOLDEN RULE!” God will judge us one day in eternity by the same measure that we have judged others here on earth (Matthew 7:1-2). Our mindset ought to be a willingness to forgive, be kind to one another and bury the past...

Ephesians 4:30-32, “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”

The Bible teaches us to love our neighbour as our self, which includes unsaved people as well as our Christian brethren. Every human being is my neighbour. You cannot walk in the Holy Spirit (Who indwells every Christian) and gossip at the same time, because gossip is a lust of the flesh, doing harm to our neighbour...

Galatians 5:14-16, “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

Gossip harms our neighbour and the person to whom we are sharing the gossip. The Bible says that the words of a whisperer (talebearer) are as WOUNDS...

Proverbs 18:8, “The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.”

The Hebrew word for “wounds” in Proverbs 18:8 is laham and means “to burn in, that is, (figuratively) to rankle (to gnaw; make resentful or angry).” When someone tells you gossip about another person, it is painful if that person being torn down is someone whom you admire or love. It burns in your heart, gnawing at your soul like a dog tearing into a piece of meat.

“We live in days, and they're sad days, because of the evil. It doesn't bother people to spread a rumor that's not true. It doesn't bother people to be vengeance, vindictive and hateful. ... I don't want to hurt people, I want to help people. I don't want to hate people, I want to love people.” —Pastor Jeff Owens, from the life-changing MP3 sermon, “God A Very Present Help.”

Psalms 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

I remember many years ago receiving a phone call from an old acquaintance from church. He asked me if I had heard about a certain fallen preacher and I said “no.” His entire voice then changed, and he was disturbed, and he told me to go read the internet. When I read the story I wept uncontrollably in sorrow. My heart broke tremendously and I still weep when I think about that fallen preacher. I won't mention the preacher's name, but I pray for him and his loved ones regularly. I have never repeated the tragic situation to anyone, because I am not going to be a party to gossip. Nearly everything is a doubled-edged sword in life. The internet has opened a great and effectual door to preach the Gospel to the world, but it has also opened the door to every form of wickedness under the sun, doing as much evil as good. Most internet forums, including religious forums, are nothing but places of contemptible gossip, slander and harbors of hatred.

To Gossip Is To Condemn One's Self

The Bible warns that condemning others brings condemnation upon our self. If you damn your neighbour, you're just damning yourself, because we all sin. Don't judge others because they sin differently than you...

Romans 2:1, “Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”

When you point the finger at another person's personal sins, running your mouth or your fingers on your internet keyboard, you are CONDEMNING THEM AND YOURSELF!!! ...

Romans 2:1, “...thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.”

It's always easy to judge from a distance. It is human nature to cast stones at others. The American people are so hypocritical in this area of judging others. There have been countless cases in the mainstream newsmedia about families who wanted zero tolerance, no mercy and maximum prison sentences for a person who hurt one of their loved ones. Yet, when the tables are turned and it's their loved one on trial for the same crime, then they beg the judge and jury for leniency.

People are so hypocritical, selfish, one-way and inconsistent. Prove what I say! Go to Google and do a web search using the phrase, “Family of teen begs for leniency,” then do another search using the phrase, “Family of teen demands justice.” Read how each opposing family only cared about what was best and beneficial for their teenaged son or daughter, and damn the other parents, family and teen. God will hold us to the same standards, whether we showed loving mercy or harsh intolerance toward someone(s) who wronged us or our loved ones.

Don't Judge Others Because They Sin Differently Than You!

Listen to the Lord's stern warning against condemning others for their personal sins...

Matthew 7:1-5, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.”

We live in a slanderous, gossiping, hypocritical society. I despise the hypocrites on TV who profit from the calamity of others. Nancy Grace is such a judgmental hypocrite. She loves to find and broadcast every dirty, filthy and sinful detail of people who've commit crimes. Showcasing high-profile crimes has become a multi-billion dollar franchise in America, from reality shows on TV to investigative reporting by a host of hypocrites like Montel Williams, Greta Van Susteren and Oprah Winfrey. They're all a bunch of circus clowns, profiting from the newsmedia freak show of broken families and a society gone insane without God. I have news for you, Nancy Grace is just as sinful and wicked as the people whom she exposes, condemns and their calamity which she manipulates in order to stay wealthy. The Godless newsmedia plays the role of judge, jury and executioner. They often condemn accused people on trial before the case has even been decided by the jury. No doubt, the jurors are often influenced by the hype and media circus.

I was watching the news today about a wealthy medical doctor whose on trial for allegedly drugging his wife and then drowning her in a bathtub in 2007. The three (now adult) daughters are testifying against the father, but they've clearly been coerced by other family members and police investigators. The man's estate (massive wealth) is under the control of the oldest daughter, representing her mother's share. A former mistress is also testifying against the doctor. The complicated case is presently being deliberated by a jury. Albeit, I heard TV bigmouth Nancy Grace say today cynically, with contempt in her voice, expressing utter disgust and frustration, that the doctor will likely be acquitted. You see, she has already condemned him. Nancy Grace is playing God. She has already decided based upon her feminist opinion that the doctor is guilty. She's usurping the role of judge, jury and executioner. Since she is already expressing contempt if the doctor is acquitted, her influence shapes the opinion of millions of viewers, perhaps even the jury. Personally, I don't think court cases should be televised until the case is completely over. It is injustice!

Lies, Sin And Injustice Are The American Way!

It is a Biblical principle that if a person cannot control their tongue, then their life is also out-of-control. James 1:26, “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.” And likewise, if you desire INSTANT CHARACTER, the Bible teaches that the ability to control one's tongue is evidence that a man has control over his life. Remarkably, the Bible has much to say about our words, the tongue and our mouth. Proverbs 21:23, “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” Here's one of my favorite Scriptures... Proverbs 17:28, “Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” The Bible teaches that even a fool, if he keeps his mouth shut, will be considered a wise man by others. There's a lot of fools in this world.

Proverbs 17:27: “He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.”

Ecclesiastes 10:14, “A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?”

There is virtue in silence; yet silence is cowardly and yellow at other times. Wisdom is knowing when to speak and when to keep quiet. Understanding is the foundation of wisdom. People who lack wisdom lack understanding. The book of Proverbs categorizes people into three categories: simple, fools and wise. The simple person is sincerely naive and ignorant. The fool rejects knowledge and despises instruction. The wise person receives instruction and reproof. Job 28:28, “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” A wise person fears God, because they realize that we must all be held accountable in eternity (Hebrews 9:27; Ecclesiastes 12:14; Romans 14:10-12). Hebrews 10:31, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

Only a fool doesn't fear God. The Bible says in Job 28:28 that understanding causes men to depart from sin, because we all learn sooner or later where sin leads and the consequences it brings. A person who continues in sin, knowing where sin leads, is a total fool. Sin ALWAYS has consequences. You may not perceive them now, but sin always has consequences. If not, then the Bible is lying when it declares in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Perhaps you are one of many people who foolishly think that it's good to report the truth about crimes committed. The sad reality is that society can't get enough of the crime, evil and bloodshed on television. Television has become so graphic in nature. Today's video games are absolutely saturated with lewdness, nudity and sexual indecency. The games are saturated with extreme violence, decapitating your enemy, dealing illegal drugs, raping your victim and showing no mercy on enemies; basically everything that the Bible teaches us NOT to be and do. The Bible tells us plainly in Acts 4:20, “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” This is perhaps one of the most overlooked and underestimated Scriptures in the entire Bible concerning human behavior. Again, Acts 4:20, “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

Acts 4:20, “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

I don't care who you are, the things that we see and hear DO influence our mind and heart for good or evil, God or Satan. You're not going to sit around at home watching professional sports all the time on TV and then all of a sudden start reading your Bible, praying and soul-winning. If you don't live the Christian life on purpose, then you will waste your life, guaranteed. People gravitate toward sinful things. You turn on the TV, start flipping channels, see something violent, shocking or sexual and then park your mind and heart there, seeing and hearing wickedness in the privacy of your home. Most married couples have a bedroom in their bedroom, watching other couples indulge in sex on television. It is wickedness! Hollywood is UNHOLYwood!!! Nearly all Hollywood directors are homosexuals, Christ-rejecting blasphemers, greedy of gain, wicked and unreasonable men. Woe unto America!

The Godless American newsmedia is known for lying, manipulation and deceitfulness. Europe knows it. The famous European band, “GREEN DAY,” sing their hit song titled, “AMERICAN IDIOT!” Green Day sings about how the newsmedia controls the American public. It's a shame that foreigners can see what's wrong with America, but we cannot see the forest for the trees. Literally, fictitious Hollywood movies these days contain 100% truth, while the so-called truthful newsmedia tell us nothing but bold-faced lies and deception. AMERICAN IDIOT!!! You'll learn more truth of how America works from Hollywood movies, than you will from listening and watching the lying deceivers in the U.S. newsmedia. Truth is stranger than fiction!

America has deteriorated into a hellhole, the Devil's playground. Communist, evil, feminist, agendas have influenced our legislators, passing intolerant laws against fathers and husbands. I just read in the news yesterday that the mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, publicly admitted to smoking crack cocaine. The mayor's popularity rating immediately soared higher!!!

Police have been trained to be intolerant toward citizens. The courts are intolerant. The laws are intolerant. People are going to prison for life for first time drug offenses! It's injustice!  Television continually slanders men and fathers, portraying men as dumb, creeps and liars. The truth is that both men and women alike are wicked. We live in a crazy society. Everybody has a chip on their shoulder these days, thin-skinned, phony and without natural affection as the Bible foretold in 2nd Timothy 3:1-5. We are fast-becoming a Godless society. Ungodliness eventually leads to Godlessness. Don't miss that... ungodliness eventually leads to Godlessness! Living in unrepentant sin eventually leads to apostasy.

Remember Thy Creator Before It's Too Late

The Bible says in Romans 1:28 that the wicked do not like to retain God in their thoughts. That's why they strive against their Maker, trying to remove God and the Bible from society completely. I stopped in the post office the other day and they had a sign that read, “In Priority We Trust!” Isn't that sad. So I went online to read more about it and found out that the post office wanted to use “In God We Trust!,” but they couldn't because of complaints from Godless customers. Many customers are even complaining about “In Priority We Trust!,” which is wrong anyway, mocking God as far as I'm concerned. That's almost as bad as Walt Disney's sinful Underdog movie advertisement which read, “In Dog We Trust!” If you can't post a sign that says “In God We Trust!,” that's really sad and pathetic. Cowards!

Separation of church and state is such a big lie! For example: Teachers are prohibited by law in public (government) schools from reading the Bible in classrooms. But children are taught evolution, which is based upon atheism (the Devil's lie that there is no God). The big fraud of evolution is not considered religion by the government, but it most certainly is religion. Evolution is NOT based upon science; but rather, speculation and theory.

Here are some Scriptures from the inspired Word of God teaching about the power of words...

WARNING: Beware Of Gossiping About Others!

The American newsmedia makes billions of dollars annually by spreading bad news, mental manure. The Word of God warns ...

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
—1st Timothy 6:10
