Our U.S. veterans commit suicide over twice the rate of non-military. I was
curious for the reason “why” so many vets of all ages are killing
themselves. Surprisingly, I could find any articles which got directly to
the point, or made it clear “why” the soldiers (once a soldier always a
soldier) are tragically ending their own lives. Some of the suggested
reasons I read were—extended military tours, denial of veteran health
benefits, physical pain from injuries, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder), difficulty readjusting to civilian life, and marriage/family
problems. Albeit, no one cited the most important reason, which is what I
would like to address with you in this article.
The most important overlooked reason as to “why” so many veterans are committing suicide, is that they don't have SOMETHING GREATER TO LIVE FOR, than their own problems, suffering, loneliness and horrible abandonment by the U.S. government. Dear friend, if you are a veteran, I want to share with you SOMETHING GREATER TO LIVE FOR! Jesus Christ said in John 10:9-10, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Becoming a born-again Christian doesn't make life any easier, but it makes life better, because we have a continual trustworthy source of hope and comfort in the promises of God in the Scriptures. ...
Romans 15:1-4, “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
My dear reader, I want you to have what I have—the knowledge, comfort and hope of ETERNAL LIFE in Christ Jesus! If you don't read another word (but I hope you will), please read “THE SIMPLE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE,” and you can KNOW right now, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that your name is written in Heaven in the Lamb's Book of Life, and that you are a child of God possessing eternal life! Salvation is the gift of God, totally for free, with no obligations to you, because Christ paid for it with His precious blood on the cross. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Being a Christian doesn't exempt us from life's vale of tears, but it gives us A HOPE of eternal life. ...
Romans 8:16-18, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
I love that... FOR I RECKON THAT THE SUFFERINGS OF THIS PRESENT TIME ARE NOT WORTH TO BE COMPARED WITH THE GLORY WHICH SHALL BE REVEALED IN US! What glory? God has things planned for His saints in Heaven that we cannot even comprehend. 1st Corinthians 2:9, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” My friend, you can have that too! If I chose to, I could sit around each day and think about all the horrible things that ungodly people have done to hurt me throughout my life. Most people don't care. I CARE, which is why I am writing this article, to help encourage frustrated veterans. God loves you and has a purpose for you in life!
