The False Gospel Of The Religious Film, “TIME CHANGER”

By David J. Stewart | June 2014 | Updated September 2016

In the 2002 religious film titled “TIME CHANGER” (watch now on YouTube) a false plan of salvation is taught at the end of the film, and I quote . . .

“Please be abundantly clear that you have truly submitted yourself to Jesus, and received Him into your life as your personal Lord and Savior. We know that Jesus will not save any man He cannot command. And if you're playing a game of pretend with the Lord tonight, if you know deep in your heart you have never truly submitted to Him, or if your unsure of your standing with Christ, now is the time to make yourself right with God by calling out to Christ.

...If you have not, please give your life to Jesus Christ right now, your eternity will depend on it.”

The preceding errant doctrinal statement from the movie is packed full of lies, heresy and satanic doctrines. Please follow me as I expose several dangerous false teachings from the quote that you just read . . .

  1. Submitting to Christ is not necessary to be saved.
  2. Receiving Jesus as your Lord is not necessary to be saved.
  3. It is untrue that Jesus will not save a man whom He cannot command.
  4. You don't get right with God by calling out to Christ.
  5. You don't get saved by giving your life to Christ.
  6. Your eternal salvation is not dependant upon human effort.

Unbelievable isn't it! These six preceding heresies are all contained in the brief quote that I just shared with you from the film “TIME CHANGER.”

Here are some truthful Biblical principles to learn, and worthy of committing to memory . . .

For an excellent understand on the subject, please listen to the MP3 sermon by Dr. Jack Hyles titled, “STEPS IN SANCTIFICATION” (or the root of all heresy).

You don't receive Christ as Lord to be saved. You don't make Jesus Lord, He is Lord. The very moment that you receive Jesus as your Savior, He becomes your Lord (Master). If you are unsaved, Satan is your master. It is a lie of the Devil that Jesus won't save a man that He cannot command. The writers of the film TIME CHANGER have it very wrong. The Bible never teaches that God won't save someone who holds onto their own selfish desires and sins; but rather, Jesus plainly stated in John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” You cannot show me even one Scripture that says Jesus won't save someone who comes to Him to be saved unless they meet certain conditions. If you come to Jesus Christ as a guilty sinner to be saved, HE WILL SAVE YOU!!! This is the Lord's promise in John 6:37.

The very fact that a person comes to Jesus to be saved is evidence that they have repented (changed their mind). John 3:20 teaches that love for sin causes people to hate the Lord (the light — see John 8:12 and John 7:7) and to avoid coming to Christ to be saved. When a person changes their mind, facing the reality of their sinnership, only then do they come to Jesus to be saved. This does not mean that a person has to forsake the act of sin, or cease from sinful bad habits, to be saved; but rather, it simply means that you have seen yourself as an unclean sinner in the eyes of a holy God, thus realizing your need to be saved to escape the eternal damnation which we justly deserve.

Heresy is creeping into our fundamental Baptist churches by the hour! The plan of salvation is delicate, and easily corrupted. The Bible warns against corrupting “THE SIMPLICITY THAT IS IN CHRIST” 2nd Corinthians 11:3, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” The simplicity of Christ is that when we acknowledge we are unholy sinners in the eyes of a holy God, and by faith receive Christ's death, burial and resurrection as full payment for our sins, we are saved.

In his excellent book, ANOTHER GOSPEL?, Dr. Harry Ironside 100% doctrinally and correctly states ...

"When anyone comes promising salvation to those ‘who make full surrender' of all that they have to God, and who 'pay the price of full salvation' he is preaching another gospel, for the price was paid on Calvary's cross and the work that saves is finished. It was Christ Jesus who made the full surrender when He yielded His life on Calvary that saves us, not our surrender in any way to Him."

Now you listen to me. You are a sinner, and so am I. We all deserve to go to Hell immediately and burn forever as payment for our own sins. But thanks be to God that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus into the world, Who was born miraculously of a virgin, and He lived a sinless life, and He went to the cross to die a vicarious (substitutionary) death in our place. The Lord was buried and then miraculously raised up from the dead three days later for our justification. Jesus ascended into Heaven and applied His literal blood to the heavenly Mercy Seat in the presence of God the Father.

Believers Are Justified From All Things

Jesus paid a debt that He did not owe, because we owed a debt that we could not pay. Jesus paid it all.

Acts 13:38-39, “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.”

God does not tell us to clean up our life, amend our ways, commit to do better in the future nor forsake the world to be saved. However, God does expect us to acknowledge our sinnership—the owning before God that I am as vile as He has declared me to be in His holy Word. To be saved, there must be an awareness of one's SINNERSHIP, that is, guilt of sin for violating God's holy Law. Galatians 3:25-25, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” The law of God shows us our sinfulness and consequent need for Christ.

Harry A. Ironside DIDN'T teach Lordship Salvation, he simply taught that Biblical repentance was necessary for salvation, which is evidenced in the following quote by Pastor Ironside...

"Repentance is the very opposite of meritorious experience. It is the confession that one is utterly without merit, and if he is ever saved at all it can only be through the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, 'who gave himself a ransom for all.' Here is firm footing for the soul who realizes that all self-effort is but sinking sand. Christ alone is the Rock of our salvation."

Clearly, Ironside taught a Free Grace view of the Gospel. Consider further the following quote by Dr. Ironside...

“The Gospel is not a call to repentance, or to amendment of our ways, to make restitution for past sins, or to promise to do better in the future. These things are proper in their place, but they do not constitute the Gospel; for the Gospel is not good advice to be obeyed, it is good news to be believed. Do not make the mistake then of thinking that the Gospel is a call to duty or a call to reformation, a call to better your condition, to behave yourself in a more perfect way than you have been doing in the past …

Nor is the Gospel a demand that you give up the world, that you give up your sins, that you break off bad habits, and try to cultivate good ones. You may do all these things, and yet never believe the Gospel and consequently never be saved at all.”

SOURCE: Harry A. Ironside, from the sermon: What Is The Gospel?

Titus 3:5, “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.” The religious film TIME CHANGER perverts God's simple plan of salvation. No doubt they are sincere people, and are trying to do the right thing. Most things that are evil are done by people who think they are doing the right thing. Most divorces are caused by people who are trying to do the right thing, but it is very wrong. Most false doctrines creep into the church by people who think they are doing the right thing, like the Lordship Salvation heresy, which is keeping people out of Heaven. Anyone who thinks they are saved because they are trying not to sin as much as they used to, as part of being saved, is on their way to the Lake of Fire in their sins.

The entire reason why Paul pleaded with the believers at Rome in Romans 12:1-2 to present their bodies a living sacrifice unto Christ is because turning away from sinful living has absolutely nothing to do with being saved. You are saved when you admit that you are a guilty sinner in the eyes of a holy God, and you turn to Christ by faith, accepting His death upon the cross as payment for your sins, believing that He raised up bodily from the dead and is alive to save you. You simply REST in Christ to be saved, Who is our Sabbath in Whom we rest today. Hebrews 4:10-11, “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.”

There's NOTHING that we can do to get to Heaven on our own, that is, by human effort. God does all the saving. The important thing is that you realize you are a guilty sinner for breaking God's laws, and consequently you and I deserve to be punished in the fires of Hell beneath; but blessed by God Who loved us and gave up His only begotten Son to pay for our sins with His own precious literal blood, which Christ sprinkled upon the Mercy Seat in the heavenly Holy Place (Hebrews 9:12,24; 12:24).

The truth is that Jesus WILL SAVE A MAN whom He cannot control. Otherwise Romans 12:1-2 wouldn't be in the Bible...

Romans 12:1-2, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Clearly, these believers were saved, but had never surrendered their lives to Christ. Whoever wrote the script for the film TIME CHANGER is woefully ignorant concerning the Biblical plan of salvation. Please don't buy into the lie of Lordship Salvation. You get saved by accepting Christ's payment for your sins, which means simply receiving him as your Savior, not Lord or King. Don't ever forget that salvation is a free GIFT, which cannot be merited or earned (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). You simply accept a gift.

“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly,
his faith is counted for righteousness.” —Romans 4:5

Please read one of the best explanations I've ever read concerning the Gospel and repentance, by Pastor Harry A. Ironside (1876-1951). Clearly, Ironside taught a Free Grace view of the Gospel...

Here is one of the best quotes that I've found on repentance, by Dr. Harry A. Ironside (1876-1951):

“Which comes first, repentance or faith? In Scripture we read, 'Repent ye, and believe the gospel.' Yet we find true believers exhorted to 'repent, and do the first works.' So intimately are the two related that you cannot have one without the other. The man who believes God repents; the repentant soul puts his trust in the Lord when the Gospel is revealed to him. Theologians may wrangle over this, but the fact is, no man repents until the Holy Spirit produces repentance in his soul through the truth. No man believes the Gospel and rests in it for his own salvation until he has judged himself as a needy sinner before God. And this is repentance.” (Except Ye Repent, p. 16)

Beware of any plan of salvation that teaches partial faith in Christ, plus turning away from sins. That is religion, not the Gospel. Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith. Salvation is a TAKE proposition, not a GIVE proposition. You simply take it by faith, for it is the free gift of God (Romans 6:23). God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved. END
