When Doing 'Many Wonderful Works' Becomes Iniquity

By David J. Stewart | March 2015 | Updated August 2019

Matthew 7:22-23, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

One of the most fascinating Scriptures in the Holy Bible to me is Matthew 7:22-23. These people were evidently in a religious group. They had preached in Jesus' name. They had done many wonderful works to help others in Jesus' name. They had even cast out demons in Jesus' name. Yet, shockingly, in eternity when they stood before God the Lord called them “WORKERS OF INIQUITY.” Jesus said He never knew them as His own.

I was horrified to learn over the years that our very own beloved Baptist churches in America are turning apostate, inviting the Devil into their congregations without even realizing it. If you are using any Bible version other than the King James Bible, the Devil is residing in your church. You've been deceived by Satan. Corruption has crept into your congregation!!! If your pastor(s) promote Dr. John MacArthur, the Devil is effectively destroying your church. If your church supports false prophets like Paul Washer, Billy Graham and Ray Comfort, you're in big trouble. And God forbid, if your pastor teaches the heresy of Lordship Salvation, your so-called “church” is actually a bunch of “WORKERS OF INIQUITY.” The Lord Jesus Christ does not know you!

Are you merely a part of a Satanic religious group, doing “many wonderful works” and preaching in Jesus' name, but you have never truly believed the Gospel? Our world is filled with these type of “WORKERS OF INIQUITY.” Yes, even professed Independent Baptist churches today in many cases have become “WORKERS OF INIQUITY,” because they teach the Devil's lie of Lordship Salvation.

“Jesus will not share saving people with any church, with any denomination, with any individual—not the pope, not the Baptist preacher, no sacrament—nothing else. He only is the Saviour, not one of the saviours.” —Pastor Curtis Hutson (1934-1995), a quote from the tract titled: Simple Salvation

Seventh-Day Adventism is a Hellbound Religious Cult

I am familiar with the Seventh-Day Adventist religious cult. I have met many of them. If you witness to one of them, they appear to be saved from a glance. They talk the talk of a Christian, and walk with walk. The majority of the SDA people I have met are kind, loving, healthy-minded and hard-working people. Kindly, I have met some horrible ones too, but overall I am impressed with their religious denomination (as far as people go). In fact, there is a part of me that desires to become a part of the Seventh-Day Adventist family, but as a born-again Christian the Holy Spirit would never allow me to do that. He would convict me morning, noon and night to get out of that cult! We are commanded in the Word of God, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers” (2nd Corinthians 6:14). SDA's are unbelievers, who adhere to a works-based false gospel!

The problem is that they have “a form of godliness,” but “denying the power thereof” (2nd Timothy 3:1-7). From such we are told to “TURN AWAY” (2nd Timothy 3:5). I have read and studied much of their literature, and have noticed that they cleverly present the Christian life without actually providing a clear presentation of the Gospel. I have done my homework. SDA founder Ellen G. White wrote a damning book titled: “Steps To Christ,” which exposes them as a false religion. Run away from this devilish cult, lest you spend eternity burning in the Lake of Fire (SDA's deny eternal damnation by the way). All of their “MANY WONDERFUL WORKS” will not spare them God's fiery judgment and wrath in eternity.

Matthew 7:22-23, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

If God spared not the angels that sinned, do not foolishly think dear reader that you will be spared. Satan's greatest weapon is to con people into living the Christian life without ever getting born-again! That is what Seventh-Day Adventism is all about, providing you with a substitute for the Gospel, making you feel comfortable in your unbelief. To the unlearned believer, they lack enough Bible knowledge to discern what is wrong with SDA, but if that is you, learn about their excusive heretical doctrine called “Investigative Judgment,” which is damning. The basic gist of this teaching is that Jesus entered into the heavenly Holy Place in the year 1844, and has since been determining who is “worthy” to go to Heaven, based upon the life you live as it confirms or denies your profession of faith. That is pure works salvation and of the Devil. The moment that you combine GRACE and LAW, you have a ANOTHER GOSPEL of damnation (Galatians 3:2; 1:6-9). The Old Testament gives us the LAW of God, which shows us that we are guilty sinners (Romans 3:19), and then brings us to GRACE in the New Testament (Galatians 3:24-26), to be saved by faith alone in Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9). Praise our great God!!!

All of the “many wonderful works” performed by Seventh-Day Adventists won't deliver them on judgment day. Please consider the warning of the Scripture in Matthew 7:21-23. God's sole will for salvation is to BELIEVE on the Son of God, without works of any sort.

The Curse of Calvinism (aka, “Lordship Salvation”)

Lordship Salvation is the false teaching that it is not enough to admit you're a sinner and believe on Christ to be saved; but also, they say that you MUST receive Jesus as your Lord, surrendering your will completely to Him, forsaking sinful behavior and committing your life to live for God. Adding these extra requirements to God's simple plan of salvation corrupts the Gospel. The Word of God plainly teaches that eternal life is a free gift (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). It cannot be merited, deserved or earned. The entire notion of Lordship Salvation is of the Devil. Those religious people who teach and preach Lordship Salvation are “WORKERS OF INIQUITY,” regardless of how sincere they may be. God's Words cannot be altered, added to or changed without consequences.

Again, according to the Satanic religion of Seventh Day Adventism (SDA), adherents of their religion must make themselves “worthy” of eternal life before they can truly be saved. SDA's deceitfully teach that a person is saved by faith alone in the Gospel of Christ, but then they add water baptism, tithing, Sabbath keeping, holy living and a bunch of other junk. That's not the Gospel! That's not God's simple plan of salvation! That's not the simplicity that is in Jesus Christ! Therefore, Seventh Day Adventists are “WORKERS OF INIQUITY!”

I say this kindly, Independent Baptists who teach Lordship Salvation are in the same sinking boat as Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses and Christian Science. And by the way, they all use modern corrupt Bible versions written by occultist's Brooke Westcott and Fenton Hort. Mark Twain was so right when he said: “It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.” Many Baptists have fallen hook, line and sinker for the Devil's Bible versions, and have bitten into the forbidden fruit of Lordship Salvation, damning themselves to Hell. Being Baptist will no get you to Heaven than walking into a garbage makes you an automobile!

There are many pastors across America, always criticizing the King James Bible and the modern ones alike. In essence what they are saying is that we don't have a perfect Bible today in the most popular and fastest growing international language in history, which is English. For the record, I find no fault with the King James Bible. It is the Bible, not a version.

All of the “many wonderful works” performed by Paul Washer, Ray Comfort, John MacArthur and other devout Calvinists won't spare God's wrath against them in eternity. These men preach that unless you are doing “many wonderful works” in your life, you've never repented and are not really saved. They grossly misunderstand the true meaning of repentance, which is simply “a change of mind” and not “a change of behavior.” When I got saved at age 13, the Holy Spirit came to indwell (live inside) my body (1st Corinthians 3:16-17; Romans 8:9; 1st John 3:24). I still allowed some sins in my life, but my attitude changed because of the conviction of the Holy Spirit. I still sinned, but for the first time in my life I felt conviction about it. That was the Holy Spirit. I became aware of my sinfulness, and knew that God wanted me to live right. But to be saved, the matter of turning from my sins was never even mentioned nor addressed.

Turning from sins is not necessary, nor permitted, for salvation. You get saved by believing “THE GOSPEL” (the “GOOD NEWS”) of Jesus Christ crucified on the cross, buried and risen the third day (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). That is how you get born-again! Behavior modification is solely a matter of discipleship, and not sonship! No believer can ever completely turn away from sin, because the flesh is weak (Romans 7:14-25). We don't live the Christian life in our own strength; but rather, Christ lives through us, if we yield to His will by obeying the Word of God. Galatians 2:20-21, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.” Please don't miss that last sentence—IF RIGHTEOUSNESS COME BY THE LAW, THEN CHRIST IS DEAD IN VAIN!!! Jesus paid for our sins because we couldn't. Thus, don't ever listen to any lying preacher or anyone, who says that you have to turn away from a lifestyle of sin to receive the free gift of God.

We Have the Infallible, Very Pure, Perfect, Inspired King James Bible Today!

In his very early ministry, even Dr. Jack Hyles corrected the King James Bible. But then he wisely became King James Bible only, and stopped correcting the Bible. There's nothing wrong with the King James Bible. Could some things have been translated better? That subject is open to much debate. But I know assuredly that God promised to preserve His Words, and He has. Call me what you will, disagree with me if you'd like, but I am on the Lord's side, defending His promise in Psalms 12:6-7 to preserve His very pure Words unto every generation. Psalms 12:6-7, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

I ask you, if the King James Bible is not up to par, then which Bible version is? Don't tell me what's wrong with the King James Bible unless you can tell me which Bible we can trust! If not, please be quite! Don't just discourage me by telling me that God didn't keep His promise, and that there are no perfect Bibles today. God wouldn't do that to us, leaving us at the mercy of Bible scholars to tell us what mistakes God made, and what the Bible should really say. I don't buy that line and neither should you. Our God is able to preserve His inspired Words unto every generation, just as He promised in Psalm 12:6-7. Thank God for the inspired, pure, perfect, trustworthy, preserved, infallible, inerrant and holy King James Bible!!!!!!!

There are millions of sincere people involved with thousands of charities today, doing all kinds of “many wonderful works,” who won't understand and will be absolutely flabbergasted in eternity when Christ rejects them! They didn't do God's will concerning salvation. The Scripture is very clear on what God's will is for all mankind. John 6:40, “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” God's will is that we see Jesus in the Scriptures for Who He is—the only begotten Son of God—and that by faith we BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF JESUS as our Savior! Luke 13:23-24, “Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” Will you be one of those few dear reader?

The Bible recounts the true story of a rich man who went to Hell. In Hell the tormented man begged Abraham to send Lazarus from the dead, to warn his five living brothers, lest they end up coming to the same place of fire, torment and suffering. Abraham said that if the man's five brothers wouldn't listen to the Words of God, then they are beyond hope. Heed that warning dear friend! ...

Luke 16:27-31, “Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

Hellbound Modernists Are Serving God in Vain

There are many modernists which have crept into the churches today—unsaved reprobates who deny the inspiration of God's Word, deny Christ's deity, deny the Godhead (Trinity), deny salvation by faith alone in the Gospel, deny the physical blood of Jesus applied in Heaven, deny Christ's bodily resurrection, deny that Jesus died on the cross, deny Christ's literal miracles, and deny Jesus' sinless perfection—there are Satan's ministers of unrighteousness. 2nd Corinthians 11:13, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.”

Ezekiel 33:13, “When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.” Anyone who relies upon their own goodness or efforts, even in the slightest way whatsoever, they will hear these horrifying Words from Jesus Christ on judgment day...

Matthew 7:22-23, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

God doesn't care about your own goodness. God is not impressed with your abilities or sacrifice. Your sincerity means absolutely nothing to a holy God. The ONLY thing that matters is—What have you done with Jesus? Have you received Him as your personal Savior yet?
