I was reading the Word of God and this Scripture struck me, thinking, what
foolish man would contend with God? Yet, the world if filled with people who
strive against their Maker. Isaiah 45:9, “Woe unto
him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with
the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it,
What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?” Woe unto the
person who strives with the Lord.
Our text verse from Job 9:3 teaches that a man cannot win even one out of a thousand points of debate in an argument with God. God is never wrong. He never makes a mistake. The Lord never says, “Uh oh!” God never has to apologize. I rejoice continually that the highest power and authority in this universe and beyond is a holy (morally perfect), loving, just, compassionate, good, merciful and awesome God!!!!!!! Could you imagine if Satan were in charge of everything? Oh my, that would be the worst horror thinkable!
Isn't it precious, encouraging and wonderful to know that the omniscient (all knowing), omnipresent (all present), omnibenevolent (all loving) and omnipotent (all powerful) God of this universe is a holy, morally pure, immutable (incapable of changing), honest, merciful, generous and uncorruptible God? And to think, He wants to live within your body and soul if you'll simply become a born-again Christian. That's how much God loves you and me, desiring to live within the very breast of our being, next to our heart. What an awesome God!
The wicked celebrities of this world, who have sold their souls to Satan for worldly wealth, fame and pleasures have absolutely no grasp of what they're going to miss out on for all eternity. They are only thinking about the here and now, blinded by their worldly success, not counting the horrifying cost of spending all eternity burning in the fires of Hell to pay for their own sins. Christ has already paid the price for every person's sins, but the gift of God must be accepted by RESTING in Jesus Christ. YOU ARE A SINNER! Unless you receive Christ's payment on the cross for your sins, you will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire. Consider the perverse and rebellious female singer KESHA, who openly brags in her songs about selling out to the Devil . . .

What a horrible thing, selling one's soul to the Devil. Kesha even admits that Satan loves to watch her cry, and he certainly does. The Devil hates you! The Devil hates everyone, but especially those who have trusted upon the Lord, because they are now Christ's, which means that Satan no longer has dominion over. Satan targets the innocent, who don't have a clue what's about to happen to them.

We learn from Job 1:10 that God puts a HEDGE between every Christian believer so that the Devil cannot harm or harass them in any way without God's explicit permission. Amen for that!
God is
not a talent scout, He just needs someone to be willing. While you're
waiting on a big door, go through a small door. Pay a child's way to Bible
camp. Ask your pastor if he needs any voluntary work done at the church.
Drive a bus. Mow the grass. Purchase some King James Bibles for the church.
Pray for your church. If your health allows, you can fast one or two days a
week. Invite neighbours to church. Clean the restrooms. Everyone can do
something for God. There are no unimportant jobs when doing something for
the Lord.
True Repentance Compels A Person To Come To Jesus To Be Saved
A man contends with God because of sin in his heart and life. John 3:20, “For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” SIN IS THE CULPRIT! This passage of Scripture speaks of the UNSAVED person who refuses to come to Christ because they've never repented. If they repented, then they would come to Jesus, as evidenced in this article which I wrote.
Matthew 21:32, “For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.”
The best way to interpret the Bible is to allow the Scripture to speak for itself. Concerning our text verse, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Jesus to question His authority. Jesus rebuked them for their unbelief. They had heard the preaching of John the Baptist. They had seen the publicans and harlots believe on Jesus. Yet, the Bible says they repented not themselves.
Had they repented they would have believed.
That is what Jesus said. Jesus didn't say they would have forsaken their
sins or surrendered their lives to God if they repented. No, rather, Jesus
said they would have BELIEVED on Him had they repented. Biblical repentance
is turning to Jesus to be forgiven of one's sins. It's that simple. AMEN!
Don't Let Satan Deceive You Concerning Repentance To Be Saved
2nd Timothy 2:24-26, “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance [metanoia] to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
Notice carefully that we find the true meaning of repentance unto salvation here in 2nd Timothy 2:25. Repentance is “ACKNOWLEDGING OF THE TRUTH,” that is, it is the admission that I am as guilty a sinner as God hath declared me to be in His holy Word. This is exactly what Dr. Harry Ironside (1876-1951) correctly taught. You won't find anything in the Bible about “repenting from sin” or “turning from sin” to be saved. Biblical repentance (metanoia) is a “change of mind,” which as you just learned compels a man to ACKNOWLEDGE THE TRUTH.
This truth is confirmed when we read
Romans 3:19 concerning the PURPOSE of God's law in the
Old Testament, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it
saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and
all the world may become guilty before God.”
God says that we are guilty sinners! When a person REPENTS
concerning salvation, they stop boasting of their own goodness and their own
“many wonderful works” (Matthew 7:21-23), and instead they acknowledge THE
TRUTH that they are a hopeless sinner that CANNOT SAVE THEM SELF. The law
BRINGS US to Jesus Christ to be saved (Galatians 3:24-26) by faith in the
gospel (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). Repentance simple means that I have been
shown my sinnership from Moses' law and now I have changed my mind, now
convinced that only Christ can save me; so the law brings me to Christ to be
saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone (Galatians
3:24-26). Adding anything, like a requirement to stop sinning or surrender to
Christ's Lordship and serve Him, is a false gospel.
1st John 1:6-10
Having laid the foundation of what Biblical repentance means, please do not be deceived by the plethora of corrupt ministers who falsely teach that repentance means making full surrender to Christ, forsaking the sinful world, turning over a new leaf, ceasing from sinful bad habits and turning away from a lifestyle of sin as PREREQUISITES to placing one's childlike faith in Christ's death upon the cross for our sins, His burial, and His miraculous resurrection from the dead three days later.
A repentant man (or woman) is not contending any longer with God, for to “confess” one's sins to God means, “to declare the same thing as God.” When we confess our sins to God (and He's the ONLY one that we should ever confess our sins to), He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us for all iniquity.
1st John 1:9-10, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
Now for the Christian believer who sins, we are instructed to “confess” (agree with God rather than contend with Him). Hebrews 12:6-8 teaches that God will CHASTISE and SCOURGE His children to conform them into the glorious image of our precious Savior, Jesus Christ.
I thank God! I thank God, that I was blessed by God to have the opportunity as a youth to attend a gospel-preaching, Bible-believing, soul-winning, independent fundamental Baptist church. I was saved at age 13. Like a light switch being turned from off to on, the Holy Spirit became present in my life the moment that I was saved. Oh, how I love and cherish the Holy Spirit Who lives in me. Everything that God does is right my friend! God can do anything but fail. If it weren't for God's grace, decent parents and a decent church with a godly pastor, we'd all be KE$HA.
In Dr. Jack Hyles' book titled, The Science Of The Christian Life, he wrote a chapter on bitterness. At first I thought Dr. Hyles would address bitterness toward others; but rather, he addresses bitterness toward God. Brother Hyles says that He doesn't agree with God that anyone deserves to spend eternity in Hell, but in such matters when he disagrees with God, he chooses to trust upon the Lord Who knows best. God sees things that we don't see. We are sinful creatures, incapable of understanding how a completely righteous God looks at things. Thus, man ought never contend with God, knowing that God is righteous and holy, incapable of moral evil.
And again I quote to you the magnificent Scripture from Isaiah 45:9, “Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?” God is the POTTER, and I am the CLAY! Whom am I to question God? I saw something heart-touching once on Ripley's Believe-It-Or-Not about a real life WOLFMAN in Canada. He was born with hair all over his face, literally, and makes the 1950's radio personality “Wolfman Jack” look like a bald-headed eagle!
I have
often felt the same way, thinking that no one deserves punishment without
end. Man's court system sometimes sentences criminals to over 400 years in
prison (which is impossible obviously to fulfill). Yet, there is still an
end to the sentence against the crime(s) committed. However, if a person
dies in their sins without Christ, they will rot in Hell for all eternity
without end, hope or mercy. That should scare you immensely, and compel you
to make sure that you are truly saved, because Jesus warned in Mark
13:24, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I
say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.”
Like the false prophets in Matthew 7:21-23, these folks foolishly
trusted in their “MANY WONDERFUL WORKS.” for salvation. The correct answer
would have been, “Jesus, we're RESTING completely in you, and have no works
to offer you, because all of our self-righteousness works are as filthy rags
in your sight (Isaiah 64:6).
Trust And Serve The Lord Instead Of Contending With Him
Oh, that men would all trust the Lord, for He is worthy of our trust, love, worship and praise. We worship God for WHO He is; and we praise God for WHAT He does; and we pray because of what God CAN DO. Prayer shows our dependence upon God day and night. Unbelief sees problems, but faith sees solution in Christ.
Prayer is not a mere religious exercise or requirement; but rather, casting our every burden, care and concern upon our omnipotent, all-capable, caring and trustworthy God in Heaven. To not pray is pride, and God resisteth the proud (James 4:6). I firmly believe that nearly every believer's biggest regret one day in eternity will be all the wonderful things that they forfeited by not simply praying to God on a regular basis about everything.
It is wonderful to be AT PEACE with a man's God. Are you at peace with God? The Bible tells us that we are brought nigh unto God by the blood (Romans 5:9).
They Knew Not Until The Flood Came
Luke 17:26-27, “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.”
