Ray Comfort Gets It
Wrong Again

I admire Ray Comfort's faithful stand for what he believes and he seems like a really great person to know as a friend; but unfortunately, he is very wrong on the matter of salvation. I don't like exposing the teachings of Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron, but they are aggressive about their errantly beliefs. I only expose them to the extent that they push their false plan of salvation. And shame on any Independent so-called “Fundamental” Baptist church who supports Mr. Comfort's ministries at “Living Water” and “Way Of The Master,” which spread a wrong plan of salvation that teaches partial faith in Christ plus human effort. Heresy is creeping into our churches by the hour!
Mr. Comfort is a skilled street preacher. Sincerely, I love the man's zeal, but either a person has to stop living in willful sin to be saved or they don't. Either we have to stop living for our self to be saved, or we don't. These are two very different plans of salvation. One requires human effort, which is what Ray Comfort teaches. The other rests 100% completely on Christ's sacrifice upon the cross and His resurrection, which is what the Bible teaches.
I watched a recent video produced by Ray Comfort's “Way Of The Master” and “Living Waters” ministry websites on YouTube. The video is titled, “Are You A Good Person?,” in which Ray Comfort errantly teaches...
“The Bible says if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. So stop living for yourself. Turn from your sins, and come to Jesus.”
No where in the Bible are we taught to stop living for our self to be saved. This is human effort. If human effort is required for salvation, then only partial faith in Jesus Christ is necessary. As is true with most of the psuedo (false) Christian religious cults such as Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists and Mormons, Ray Comfort speaks religious double-talk, teaching that eternal life is the free gift of God, but yet we cannot have it unless we stop living for ourselves. This is unbiblical. A genuine “gift” is completely free, without obligations or requirements, because Christ paid the price for our sins with His blood (1st Peter 1:18-19). Eternal life is a gift, not a reward. If a person has to clean up their life to be saved, then eternal life becomes a reward instead of a free gift.
What you've just read is a satanic plan of salvation, which cannot produce the new birth in Christ. It will produce religion, but religion cannot get anyone to Heaven. The problem is a common misunderstanding of what it means to repent. When Jesus spoke of “repentance” concerning salvation, he always meant “a change of mind.” Unfortunately, the English word “repent” is defined very differently as “turning from sins, to feel remorse.” Biblical repentance is changing your mind from what you want to do to get to Heaven, to what God says you must do.

Does a person really have to let go of their beloved sins to be saved? If they do, that is human effort. Can anyone let go of all their sins? Is that possible? No, it is not. Even the best of Christians are still sinners (Romans 7:14-25).

You cannot show me even one Bible verse that says to “TURN FROM SIN” to be saved. Romans 3:19 teaches that the purpose of the Old Testament law is to show men their sinfulness, so that the world may become guilty before God, realizing their need for the Savior, which is Christ Jesus the Lord (Galatians 3:24-26). Note: All Scripture quotations and references are only from the trustworthy King James Bible (KJB).
God never intended for people to keep His law as part of obtaining salvation (Romans 3:20); but rather, to completely rest in the finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:10-11). Then, once we are washed clean by Christ's blood (Romans 5:9; 1st Peter 1:18-19; 1st John 1:7; Revelation 1:5; 1st Corinthians 6:11), God wants us to fulfil the law out of love as His child, and not out of obligation to be saved (Romans 3:31).

Independent Baptist Churches are Being Corrupted
Author Mark Twain (1835-1910) is correct when he states, “It is easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been deceived.” More than half of all Independent Baptist churches in America today have been corrupted concerning the gospel, because they have been influenced by heretics like Rick Warren, David Cloud, Ray Comfort, Pat Robertson, Eric Hovind, Beth Moore, John MacArthur, Chip Ingram, Billy and Franklin Graham, James Dobson, Charles Stanley and Joel Osteen. It is almost impossible to attend any Baptist church today where the pastor doesn't continually quote the false prophets I just mentioned.
The most influential and dangerous of all of these heretics is Dr. John MacArthur (a staunch 5-point Calvinist who denies that Jesus' blood was applied to the heavenly mercy seat, and who teaches that it's the life we live and not the words we speak that determines our eternal destiny). The truth is that it's neither the words we speak or the life we live that gets us to Heaven; but rather, simple childlike faith that Jesus is the Christ, Who died on the cross for OUR SINS, and raised up from the dead three days later (1st Corinthians 15:1-4; John 3:16). 1st Thessalonians 4:14, “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.” There's nothing in 1st Thessalonians 4:14 about letting go of beloved sins to be saved; but rather, just believing that Jesus died and rose again. Those are the saints whom the Lord is coming back to get.
The false plan of salvation that Ray Comfort is teaching is identical to the satanic cults of Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventism and Mormonism concerning their view of repentance. What breaks my heart is that so many Independent Baptist churches have also been caught up into this demonic doctrine of devils. I have personally handed the wonderful book “I Never Knew You” to Baptist pastors and associate pastors, but they are under the nearly unbreakable spell of false prophets like Billy Graham, Rick Warren and John MacArthur, refusing to even consider that their theological heroes may actually have it wrong. May I kindly say... THE GREATS HAVE IT WRONG!!! Salvation is so free and simple that most men pass right over it in favor of “another gospel” that includes some amount of human effort, appealing to their sense of righteous indignation (religious anger).
2nd Corinthians 5:15-17, “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Sadly, Mr. Comfort and his sidekick, Kirk Cameron, are doctrinally corrupted and confused; likely because they are followers of heretic John MacArthur (evidenced by Kirk Cameron promoting the John MacArthur Study Bible on his website).

You can live for Christ, you can love Christ, you can serve Him with all your might, time, talent and wealth. You can pray to Him, read your Bible, get water-baptized, join a church, witness to people, and do every wonderful work contained within the realm of Christianity, but if you fail to trust Jesus Christ alone for your salvation, He will “dump” you.

Beware of the false teaching in most churches today, even many Baptist churches, which says that you have to forsake sinful living to get saved, commit your life to Christ and surrender fully to Christ's Lordship. Satan loves to corrupt the gospel by either requiring good works to be saved, or by subtracting bad works to be saved. Whether good or bad, both are DEAD WORKS! (Hebrews 6:1).

It is wrong to teach that a person must repent first, and then believe second; that is a false doctrine. The Bible teaches that the man who believes on Jesus has also repented. They happen simultaneously. One who has turned to Jesus for salvation has also turned his back against sin. This is Biblical salvation, evidenced by the plain words of John 20:31, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” You don't turn from your sins to trust Jesus; you turn to Jesus to be forgiven of your sins. Amen!
Jesus died, was buried and is risen (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). This is the Gospel. Jesus' grave is empty. We have a hope (John 16:33). Christ died, that's history; Christ died for me, that's salvation. If you repent toward God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ to be forgiven of your sins, then you ARE saved (Romans10:13).
The Gospel is not making a commitment to the Lord, nor is the Gospel amending one's sinful ways and forsaking bad habits. The Gospel is not accepting Jesus into one's heart, nor is it receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Gospel is not praying a prayer, nor is it inviting Jesus into your life to stay. The Gospel is Jesus' DEATH, BURIAL and RESURRECTION according to 1st Corinthians 15:1-4. Beware of false prophets who come in sheep's clothing preaching ANOTHER GOSPEL, ANOTHER JESUS and ANOTHER SPIRIT (2nd Corinthians 11:3-4).
But Ye Are Washed
Ray Comfort contends that a person living in deliberate sin isn't saved based upon 1st Corinthians 6:9-11...
1st Corinthians 6:9-11, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
Notice very carefully the phrase in verse 11, “BUT YE ARE WASHED.” My friend, when you change your mind (repent) from what you want to do to get to Heaven, to what God says you must do (which is to believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and was raised up from the dead three days later), you are saved. The moment that we receive Christ's sacrifice on the cross as full payment for our sins, all of our sins (past, present and future) are washed away by Jesus' precious blood.

Our evangelical churches are filled with Christians who commit and tolerate envy, discord, hatred, gossip, lust and self-righteous hypocrisy in their personal lives. It's not right. God does not approve. Yet, we are all sinners. Don't judge others because they sin differently than you.
I know Independent Baptist churches who teach a false plan of Lordship Salvation, don't preach on Hell, don't preach against sin, female members wear butt-tight pants, the return of Christ is never mentioned from the pulpit, Sunday evening services are cancelled on all major holidays, the pastor is hardly ever in his own pulpit because he's always traveling, there is no hard core Bible preaching, heretic John MacArthur is as popular in their church as Elvis Presley is to the heathen world, et cetera; yet, that same church will shun imperfect members. What hypocrites!
Have you ever noticed that the religious people who have never gone into what some consider “deep sin” are the biggest judgmental hypocrites? Truly, the Christian army is the only army in the world that slays its wounded. It's the believers who've messed up, been in prison, lost everything and shipwrecked their lives who dare not condemn others for their faults and sins. If it weren't for God's mercy and grace, giving us the gift of His dear Son Jesus Christ sacrificed on the cross, we'd all plunge straight into the fires of Hell beneath where we deserve to burn.
They are no different than a cross-dresser or homosexual who is saved. Ray Comfort thinks he is saved because (in addition to faith in Christ) he is trying to stay away from sinful activities. This is the same shared false beliefs of Seventh Day Adventism, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, et cetera. All of these groups teach that faith alone is insufficient to save a person, but say that works are also required.
The evidence of the believer's salvation is the convicting, guiding, teaching, rebuking and comforting presence of the Holy Spirit of God in us (Romans 8:9). 1st John 3:24, “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” This Scripture is what God desires for every believer, that is, us abiding in Christ (John 15:1-5) as His Spirit abides in us. Albeit, it is possible to fail to abide in Christ even though He still abides in us. Galatians 5:25, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” These are Bible doctrines that Ray Comfort ignores. You need to see the eye-opening video exposing Ray Comfort's religious money-machine, “Pay Of The Master.”
But you say, does that mean I can get saved and live in gross immorality? Yes, you can live that way if you want, but you don't have God's permission, and the Bible warns that God chastises ands scourges His children (otherwise your bastards, illegitimate, and not really saved according to Hebrews 12:6-8). A genuine born-again Christian cannot continue in willful sin without enduring God's chastening hand of discipline. Hebrews 12:6, “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
I'm sick and tired of hypocritical believers deciding that someone's not saved because that person files for divorce, commits adultery, tells somebody off in anger, or commits some other horrible sin. It's unbiblical! The Bible plainly teaches in Proverbs 24:16, “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” A saved man is not righteousness because he rises or falls, but because He has the Holy Spirit of God indwelling Him (Romans 8:9).
The Bible is filled with Christians who did horrible things. Moses was a murderer. David commit adultery and murder. Jonah ran from God. Isaiah was a man of unclean lips. Jeremiah quit preaching. Samson was a whoremonger. Rebekah deceived her husband Isaac. Abraham lied. Sarah laughed at the promises of God. Noah got drunk. Peter cursed Christ and quit the ministry. Demas loved this present world and forsook his ministry with Paul. Peter was jealous of John. There's not a Christian upon the earth that doesn't still sin every day. Just because any particular believer chooses to remain in their pet sins doesn't mean they are not saved, evidence by 1st Corinthians 5:1-5. This is the account of the man fornicating with his step-mother. The Bible says if he refused to repent that his spirit would be saved in the day of the Lord (1st Corinthians 5:5). It doesn't say that he wasn't saved.
The Epistle of 1st John 3:1-11 teaches that the presence of the Holy Spirit is evidence of salvation, not the presence of good works or the absence of bad works. 1st John 3:9 says, 1st John 3:9, “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” Notice that the Bible says the genuine Christian born of God “CANNOT SIN.” Wait a minute! Every Christian still sins, every day, whether in deed or thought. It's a sin even when we don't pray for others (1st Samuel 12:23). So what does this Scripture mean? It means that the Holy Spirit which indwells the believer cannot sin. Every believer has a constant conflict inside between the flesh and the Holy Spirit (Romans 7:14-25). Ray Comfort ignores all of these Biblical truths. What Mr. Comfort is doing is trying to force people to live right by adding works to the simple plan of salvation.
The Bible teaches in Romans 4:5-6 that a man's faith in Jesus as the Christ is counted by God for righteousness. Thus, we don't need any works to be saved, neither doing good works or forsaking bad works. All works are DEAD WORKS (Hebrews 6:1). The only work required for salvation is to believe on Christ. John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”
Although no doubt sincere, Ray Comfort confuses and mixes sonship with discipleship. Mr. Comfort confuses the saved life with the crucified life. Charles Spurgeon On Repentance
Some Bible teachers like John MacArthur and Ray Comfort have attempted to misquote Charles Spurgeon to support their Lordship Salvation heresy; but they need to keep reading Spurgeon's sermons, because Charles Spurgeon clearly DIDN'T believe in giving up sins to be saved...
God gives the salvation himself..." — Charles Spurgeon"You must not expect that you will be perfect in "repentance" before you are saved. No Christian can be perfect. "Repentance" is a grace. Some people preach it as a condition of salvation. Condition of nonsense! There are no conditions of salvation.

Clearly, Charles Haddon Spurgeon DIDN'T believe that forsaking one's sins, or grieving, or feeling sorrow, or being willing to turn from them, was necessary to be saved. Rather, Spurgeon believed that they were evidences of genuine repentance. Spurgeon did in fact teach, as have other great men of God, that a sinner ought to turn from his or her sins as evidence of genuine repentance; but this is after-the-fact, and not a requirement for salvation itself. Spurgeon plainly taught "there are no conditions of salvation," which is what the Bible teaches. We are sinners and Jesus is the Savior!
