A Christian Falls IN GRACE, Never FROM GRACE

By David J. Stewart | April 2019

Galatians 5:4, “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.”

One of the most commonly misunderstood phrases in the Holy Bible is “ye are fallen from grace” in Galatians 5:4. May I share a wonderfully truth with you dear reader... a born-again believer can only fall “IN GRACE,” never “FROM GRACE.” Romans 5:20, “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” Whenever we have sinned as redeemed children of God, “GRACE DID MUCH MORE ABOUND.” God's limitless grace reaches deeper than the lowest sin that a Christian can commit! There is no stain of sin so great that the precious blood of Jesus cannot wash it completely away!

My friend, if you have believed the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ crucified on the cross, buried and bodily risen from the dead the third day, then you have no criminal record in Heaven. You may have a rap sheet a mile long here on earth, but if you are saved, you have no record in eternity! Romans 8:31-34, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”

I cherish the following insightful quote from Brother Lester Roloff (1914-1984), which emphasizes the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ...

“You haven't got one thing to do down here—and that's to stay on the Bible trail—keep the Commandments! You say, but Brother Roloff: 'Do you really believe you've got to keep all Ten Commandments to go to Heaven?' I sure do, I sure do! He said: 'Fear God and keep His Commandments!' Now you're going to ask another question: 'Have you kept the Commandments yourself?' No Sir! 'Are you going to Heaven?' I really am! That'll be my next stop. 'How you gonna get there, you haven't...?' I met a man called Jesus! And I said: 'Lord, I'm a sinner, I've broken so many of the Commandments.' And He said: 'Well, I have Good News for you, I've kept 'em all, and I've swapped My keeping for your breaking! I said: 'Really?" He said: 'I really mean it!'” —Evangelist Lester Roloff (sermon quote, "The Lost Fear Of God")

I love that! Jesus swapped (imputed) His perfection for our sinning! Jesus lived a SINLESS life. There has NEVER been a single Christian since the beginning of time who fell FROM GRACE! Hebrews 4:15, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Jesus never sinned, not once, even in thought or word. In order to be acceptable as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, Jesus had to be complete spotless and without sin or character blemish. Anyone who alleged that Jesus was a sinner in the least way is a demonic LIAR!

There have been some very wicked movies produced which portray Christ as a sinner. One ungodly film is “The Last Temptation Of Christ”  (1988), produced by reprobate Hollywood director Martin Scorsese. Another ungodly film is “The Da Vinci Code” (2006), produced by reprobate Hollywood director (and former “Happy Days” star) Ron Howard. These are ungodly men, who portray the sinless Lamb of God as a fornicator with Mary Magdalene. It is blasphemy against the Son of God! Dear reader, Jesus is the perfect, sinless, spotless Lamb of God, Who died on the cross in our place, suffering the reproach and death of a criminal, so that we (you and me) sinners who knew no righteousness could be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2nd Corinthians 5:21, “For he [God the Father] hath made him [God the Son] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” What a beautiful Savior, deserving of our utmost praise and worship!!! JESUS IS ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!!!!

There is No Condemnation for the Redeemed Believer!

Many unsaved people who have commit horrible crimes (and consequently have been sentenced to life in prison), came to their senses as a result and received Jesus Christ. They have nothing left in this earthly life, except the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ (and what a grand hope that is!). I am reminded of an applicable passage of Scripture...

Matthew 5:29-30, “And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

Sometimes as a result of a really bad situation (and what seemed to be a curse), it actually became the best thing that ever happened to the person. I am not praising crime, God forbid. I am simply saying that there are many people serving life in prison, who never would have come to Jesus Christ had they not lost everything! What is this short earthly life in comparison to eternity?

Paul McCartney of The Beatles comes to mind, who I think is a good man as far as men go, who has everything a man could ever want here on earth (fame, women, friends, fortune, health, nobility, power), but he is obviously not a child of God. Paul has made numerous religious statements to the public throughout his illustrious career, dabbling in everything from atheism to Roman Catholicism to Hinduism, none of which are Biblical Christianity. What doth it profit a man if he gain the whole world, but lose his own soul in Hell? It is hard for most people to imagine that a cold-blooded murderer serving life in prison could go to Heaven, but a pleasant, likable and admirable guy like Paul McCartney could burn in Hell forever. But that is what the Bible teaches...

Revelation 20:11-15, “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

The Great White Throne of Judgment (which will happen at the end of the 1,000 year Millennium) is only for the unsaved, “the dead,” the Bible says, great and small. If you are a born-again Christian, they you are saved BY GRACE! In contrast, Christians will be judged at the Judgment Seat Of Christ (which happens immediately following the Rapture). Grace is God giving us what we don't deserve. Mercy is God not giving us what we do deserve. We are saved by God's wondrous grace. We deserve to go to Hell. God continually shows the world mercy by not sending us all to Hell, which we all deserve! The beautiful thing about salvation is that once you place your trust in the Good News of Jesus Christ, you are no longer under THE LAW, but are now under GOD'S GRACE!

I just heard a great quote from Pastor Danny Castle in a sermon called, “What Will We Do In Heaven?” ...

SOURCE: Pastor Danny Castle, a helpful quote from the classic sermon, “What Will We Do In Heaven?

Only a willful Christ-rejecter is fallen FROM GRACE, passing up their only ticket to eternal life and Heaven! They Hebrews 6:4-6, “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.” Ladies and gentleman, this is the first group of seeds in Luke 8:12, in whom the Devil removed the Seed of God's Word (Luke 8:11), and they didn't get saved. Notice carefully that the Bible doesn't say the person in Hebrews 4:4-6 got saved; but rather, they merely “tasted of the heavenly gift.” They became “enlightened” to the knowledge of the truth of the Gospel. They “were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,” simply means that the Holy Spirit dealt with their heart, convicting them that they should get saved, but they refused. Tasting of the heavenly gift of eternal life is not the same as salvation. When you “taste” something, you haven't actually eaten it yet. Clearly, this passage in Hebrews is about people who hear the Gospel, but refuse to gladly receive and believe it to be saved.

“Do you know what 'the spirit of a sound mind' is? This spirit isn't resting on you, it's resting on the grace of the God you serve, the grace of the God Who wants to use you!” —Dr. David Gibbs Jr., a life-changing quote from the 2017 sermon titled, "It's Time To Reach This World."

Believers Are Under GRACE, Not Under the LAW

The following Bible verse speaks concerning the unsaved person, who is still under THE LAW, which condemns them for their sins. The LAW of God (about 720 Old Testament commandments) makes all men guilty. Before we were saved, we were all under the LAW...

Romans 3:19, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”

In sharp contrast, the following Bible verse speaks concerning the Christian, who is no longer under the LAW, but is now and forever under God's GRACE, which is only through faith in Christ Jesus...

Romans 6:14-15, “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.”

No Christian has a license to sin, just because the LAW no longer has the power to condemn us. Albeit, in a sense we do have a license to sin, in that, no amount of sinning can ever jeopardize our position in Christ as His redeemed child. Isn't that precious!

I love what Pastor Ralph “Yankee” Arnold said in a sermon...

“'You can't tell me you can trust Christ as Savior, and then go out here and live like the Devil, and still go to Heaven!' Yes, I can tell you that! That's what the Bible says. If you don't come to the conclusion, that—Yes, you can trust Christ as your Savior and live like the Devil, and still go to Heaven when you die—you don't get grace, because that is the exact truth! That is the truth! I do not have to change my life! I don't have to stop one sin! You say, 'I've never heard a preacher say that.' You just heard one! And you listen to me—I want to live as holy and as godly as I possibly can. I am now 70 years old. I've been saved for 52 years. ... the only reason I'm going to Heaven is because, 52 years ago in a little living room, I accepted Christ as my Savior.” —Pastor Ralph Yankee Arnold, a great quote from the awesome sermon, Calvinism And Grace Are NOT Compatible | MP3

Yes, that is 100% correct!

Dear reader, your manner of life has absolutely NOTHING to do with going to Heaven! As we just read in Romans 6:15-16, God expects His children to keep the LAW, because WE ARE SAVED, not to GET SAVED! Romans 3:31, “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.” So many preachers today are WRONG on the doctrine of salvation, wrestling these Scriptures to their own destruction (2nd Peter 3:16-17). I have never seen so much heresy creeping into independent Baptist churches as I do today. The biggest culprit is complacency, becoming too relaxed about the truth! Today's biggest Bible colleges are indifferent toward the purity of the Word of God, indifferent toward the accuracy of the Gospel, indifferent toward the inspiration of God's Word! Somebody's got to care! Well I care! Humbly, God uses me for one reason, because I am willing to be used by Him!!!

THE KIND OF PERSON GOD WILL USE
(YouTube sermon by Pastor Danny Castle; All you've got to do is surrender to Him!)

God uses sinners! Folks, God only has sinners to use! We're ALL woeful sinners in God's sight. You're either under LAW or under GRACE. Which is it for you my friend? I am under GRACE, through faith in the cross of Calvary! God used murderers to write one-third of the Holy Bible (Moses, David and Paul). Those were saved men, God's redeemed children! Listen to the words of the Lord to the self-righteous religious crowd in Matthew 21:32, “For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.” That is amazing! God is looking for a few redeemed sinners who are surrendered to serve Him!

I thank God for the hope of the Gospel!!! The Gospel offers hope to the hopeless. Someone has said that the word GOSPEL is an acronym for: God Offers Sinful People Eternal Life. I like that! Dear friend, do you have the HOPE of eternal life that only the Gospel offers to all humanity? Titus 1:2, “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.” As believers we don't merely “hope”; but rather, we HAVE A BLESSED HOPE of eternal life! Amen!

Literally, most religious people who are outwardly good, generous and loving, will burn in the Lake of Fire in eternity, having died in their sins without ever being born-again! Satan's greatest weapon is to con people into living the Christian life without ever being born-again!

“There's a lot of bad people who've crept into the Independent Baptist Movement!” Pastor Anderson: Lame Baptist Churches

Lately I have been revisiting Scripture passages that I often think about, to study the surrounding text, in order to properly understand the context of the passage. One of the biggest mistakes of Bible students, and one of the biggest cause of heresies in many churches, is quoting a single passage of Scripture by itself, without taking into consideration the surrounding Bible verses. A classic example is Galatians 5:4b, “ye are fallen from grace.”

Please notice the surrounding verses. ...

Galatians 5:2-5, “Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.”

When we view these Scriptures together, verses two through five, the passage takes on a MUCH clearer meaning. Circumcision (i.e., the surgical removal of the foreskin of males) was required under the Mosaic law to be right with God. It was a ceremonial law for the Jews, which was intended to be a constant reminder (a sign) that God's people were expected to be separated from the ungodly world. This was also the purpose of Jews being forbidden to mix different types of fabrics in their clothing, or eat certain unclean animals, et cetera. These ceremonial laws were NEVER required for salvation! The Old Testament laws reveals God's perfect character. People have always been saved by grace through faith in Christ! Genesis 15:6, “And he [Abraham] believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness” (see also: Romans 4:1-6). Acts 10:43, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

Beware of Satan Creeping into Churches

In the church at Galatia, a satanic cult has infiltrated their group, teaching that circumcision was necessary to be saved. They taught a “partial faith in Christ plus works” counterfeit type of gospel. This is identical to the satanic “wrong repentance” and “Lordship Salvation” heresies being taught in many churches today, which add human effort to God's grace. It is important to notice that whether circumcision, repenting of sinful behavior or surrendering one's life's to Christ's Lordship to obey Him, these are ALL THE WORKS OF THE LAW!

Romans 3:19-20, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” As we just read, the PURPOSE of God's law (all 722 of them total) was primarily to GIVE US THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN, and never intended as a means to obtain righteousness with God. When a believer sins (and we all do), we fall IN GRACE, never FROM GRACE!

So the apostle Paul writes a loving letter of admonition, rebuke and education to the Galatians, informing them that they have been woefully deceived by a religious cult. Paul argues that if circumcision were necessary to be saved, then a person would also be required to obey all 722 commandments (moral, civil and ceremonial laws total) to be saved. It would be silly to teach that keeping one particular law is required, but not all of the laws of God. To the vain and proud religious man, this counterfeit type of Gospel might sound good, but Scripturally it is of the Devil.

“The closer you get to God, the closer you get to the Devil, because that's where the Devil hangs out!” —Pastor Danny Castle (a quote from the sermon, “You Can't Trust Your Feelings! | MP3”)

The same can be said of Seventh-day Adventists today. They have literally elevated keeping the Sabbath Day into a religion all by itself. But if observing the Sabbath Day is necessary to be saved, then so also would be keeping 722 more civil, moral and ceremonial laws from the Old Testament. The Jews were forbidden from even lighting a fire on the Sabbath Day. They were prohibited from collecting sticks. They could not travel. When Seventh-day Adventists drive to church on Saturday (i.e., the Old Testament Sabbath Day), they are horribly violating God's law. When they turn on their stove to make fire on Saturdays, SDA's are violating God's law. When they do anything on Saturdays, they are violating God's laws. How silly and ridiculous it is for SDA's to teach that keeping the Sabbath is necessary to get to Heaven. Kindly, but truthfully, Seventh-day Adventism is a satanic religious cult of unsaved reprobates!!!

I do not question Adventist's sincerity. I believe most SDA's are very sincere. I know some Adventists, and they are very sweet people (most of them), but despite my witness of the truth of the Gospel to them, they are brain-locked with the concept that good works (including keeping the Sabbath Day) are absolutely required to complete one's profession of faith. This is NOT the Gospel. SDA's epitomize the truthful saying: The Devil's greatest weapon is to con people into living the Christian life without ever being born-again! The ONLY way anyone has ever been born-again, or will be born-again, is to fully submit one's self to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:3-4), by placing one's sole trust in the death, burial and bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ (1st Corinthians 15:1-6). There is no other name by which a person can be saved, than through childlike faith in the precious name of Jesus (Acts 4:10-12).

Anyone who teaches that a Christian can lose the salvation which God has given to them by faith is a LIAR! No child of God has ever fallen FROM GRACE. It is impossible! A child of God can only fall down IN GRACE. It all boils down to a simple childlike matter of faith. Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of God? Are you trusting Him as your personal Savior? I didn't ask you which religious denomination you belong to. I didn't ask you if you are living the Christian life. I didn't ask you if you honor Mary, keep Catholicism's Seven Sacraments (one of which is water baptism). None of those things produce the new birth! YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN!

“The Devil will put just enough truth, mixed-in with the lie, to get you messed up!” —Pastor Danny Castle (a quote from the sermon, “You Can't Trust Your Feelings! | MP3”)

The Religious Cult at Galatia

Keeping in mind what I have just taught you, please read this passage of Scripture again...

Nothing is said in this passage of Scripture about losing one's salvation. Rather, the subject at hand is adding the works of the law to faith to be saved, which is a counterfeit gospel. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross is of no benefit to them who seek justification through keeping the law. The whole reason why Jesus went to the cross, and was sacrificed, was because there is NOTHING we can do to reconcile ourselves to God. We are all ungodly sinners, and would all be hopelessly lost and on our way to the Lake of Fire, if it were not for Christ's sacrifice on the cross. THANK GOD FOR THE CROSS!!!

Anyone who is trying to merit salvation by keeping the law, or even attempting to “help” save them self by partial faith in Christ plus human effort, is not saved. They have crucified afresh the Son of God, rejecting His perfect sacrifice on the cross. The only mindset that a truly born-again believer can have is this:

I am nothing but a hopeless guilty sinner in the flesh, but my faith is 100% in Jesus Christ alone, because of what He did to pay for my sins on the cross, by the precious blood that He shed for me. Christ was buried and three days later He bodily resurrected from the dead. This is my total, complete and only hope for forgiveness of sins and eternal life! This is “THE GOSPEL” (GOOD NEWS)!!!

Jesus doesn't forgive sin, He has already paid for our sins with His precious blood. Forgiveness of sins is a free gift. Jesus has already paid for everyone's sins. Anyone can have eternal life, just for the taking, by faith. God can read your mind. The very second that God sees you've placed your confidence in Christ's sacrifice on the cross for your sins, trusting God at His Word that Jesus was buried, and then raised up physically three days later, you are immediately, securely, irrevocably and forever saved. It is that simple. John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” If you'll take God on the authority of His Word, and believe on Him, He has promised “TO SAVE THEM THAT BELIEVE” (1st Corinthians 1:21b).

The only way to “FALL FROM GRACE” is to try to enter into Heaven “SOME OTHER WAY.” John 10:1, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” There is ONLY one door into Heaven, through the Good News (i.e., Gospel) of the Lord Jesus Christ!!! My only hope for righteousness is by the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ; and not by any works of the law, nor by turning from sins, nor by surrendering to Christ's Lordship, nor by any other false way. The churches are in trouble today. Satan has crept into most of the churches already—through the falsehoods of televangelists, fake Bible versions, corrupt religious colleges, thousands of ungodly religious books, et cetera. Have you been deceived?

“One fella said, 'The reason so many people go to the movies and nobody goes to church, is 'cause the movies do a real good job of making fake look real, and the church does a real good job of making real look fake! Amen to that buddy, amen to that! We got the real thing and we do a pretty good job of making it look fake, don't we?” —Pastor Danny Castle (a quote from the sermon, “You Can't Trust Your Feelings! | MP3”)

A Christian Believer ALWAYS Falls IN GRACE, Never FROM GRACE!

Remember, a believer who sins (and we ALL do every day), only falls IN GRACE, never FROM GRACE. Romans 5:20, “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” The unsaved person is still under the curse of God's LAW, condemned already. Ah, but the dear saint of God is under God's free GRACE. All of the false prophets today, like Paul Washer, Ray Comfort and John MacArthur, who require turning away from sinful behavior to receive the free gift of God, are not teaching GRACE! Anything other than grace alone is NOT grace! Romans 11:6a, “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace...” The moment that anyone adds the slightest addition to the Gospel of grace, it ceases to be grace.

If you think that the life you are living on earth can affect your eternal life, then you don't get grace!!! As Jonah rightly pondered in the belly of the whale in Jonah 2:9b, “SALVATION IS OF THE LORD.” No believer can ever fall from grace, it is impossible. When we sin (and we ALL still do because we are human), we fall IN GRACE! Once a person has eternal life, which is the gift of God, they can NEVER lose it!!!

Here's a wonderful poem authored by Pastor Danny Castle about the three stages of life; It's called “NO ROOM FOR JESUS” . . .

NO ROOM FOR JESUS...

No room for Jesus when I'm young and free,
No time for the church, or a Bible for me;

No room for Jesus when I'm a grown man,
I'm busy making a living, doing the best I can.

No room for Jesus, when I'm old and gray,
I've lived good enough, I'll make it my way;
Now as the time comes to die for me,
only it is now I am beginning to see,
When at Heaven's gates I stand and plea:
What a fool I've been, they'll be no room for me.

Dear reader, a born-again believer can only fall “IN GRACE,” never “FROM GRACE.” Romans 5:20, “Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound.

God's GRACE is freely available to the most hopeless drug addict on the street—whose body has been abused, wearied and broken with immoral sex, drug needles and puss-filled sores from infected. God loves you and offers His GRACE, through faith in the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ crucified on the cross, buried and bodily risen the third day. The Christian believer falls IN GRACE, when we sin (and we ALL do every day), because we are eternally safe and secure with the arms of our heavenly Father underneath! Deuteronomy 33:27, “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.” Eternal life is the believer's assurance of salvation! Eternal security is not a separate doctrine from eternal life, they are one and the same thing! John 6:47, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
