Pastor R.C. Sproul: Wolf In The Pulpit
by David J. Stewart | November 2019
Titus 3:3-7, “For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
I first called Robert Charles Sproul (1939-2017) a “bastard in the pulpit,” for my article, but I chose to change it to “wolf.” Even though “bastard” is a biblical term (Hebrews 12:8), I suppose it is a bit harsh. I don't mean bastard in a derogatory use of the word, but in the sense of being an illegitimate preacher. Still, I thought about it and perhaps some people might take offense. Maybe I should use the terms shyster or conman instead. I'll just use all of them, take your pick! A wolf is a threat to the sheep!
Here is a typical heretical statement from R.C. Sproul...
“We notice that there's a link between the degree of assurance that we have, of our relationship with God, and our progress in spiritual growth.” —R.C. Sproul, 'Keeping In Step With The Spirit'; Lecture 10 - True Or False Assurance
BLASPHEMY! What you just read from R.C. Sproul is 100% works salvation! Dear friend, the Lord promised instant salvation to anyone who BELIEVES on His name. John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Isn't that simple? All you need to do to have 100% assurance of salvation is to BELIEVE ON JESUS' NAME!!! If you believe that truth, then you should never promote the theological materials of John MacArthur (as Harvest Baptist Church on Guam shamefully does), because these two men are both diehard Calvinists, lest you bid Godspeed to this devil in the pulpit. Mr. MacArthur requires SEVEN THINGS to be saved! Shockingly, Pastor MacArthur never mentions “BELIEVING” as a requirement! Truly, “Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works” (2nd Corinthians 11:13-15). Since they have not been justified by faith, God will judge them according to their works! This is what happened in Matthew 7:21-23.
I am despised and rejected by the Harvest Baptist Church on Guam, because I called them out for promoting John MacArthur, Ray Comfort, Paris Reidhead, Stephen Davey, Ravi Zacharias, Paul Washer and other heretical Calvinists. Ladies and gentleman, Calvinism (aka, Lordship Salvation) is NOT the Gospel of free grace. These are wolves in the church pulpit! I will expose anybody who bids Godspeed to evil false prophets like John MacArthur! Did you know that Dr. MacArthur teaches children cannot be saved? Did you know that Mr. MacArthur teaches Jesus didn't die on the cross for everyone (aka, the Calvinist heresy of Limited Atonement). Harvest Baptist Church promotes this wicked man! I have tried to make peace with Harvest Baptist Church since 2017, wanting to fellowship with their imperfect church (as an imperfect sinner myself), and they have my e-mail and know where I live, but they don't care. So I DO CARE!
As other heretics of our day, Pastor R.C. Sproul butchers the Holy Bible and misinterprets the story of The Rich Young Ruler And Jesus in the Gospel of Mark...
Mark 10:17-23, “And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!”
Dr. Sproul errantly states:
“This man, who moments before enthusiastically came to Jesus, when he saw what it costs to be a disciple, he walked away; not in anger, but in sorrow, because he had great possessions. And he was not willing to trade them in for the pearl of great price. He walked away with his money, and left his souls and the Savior behind. That same transactions beloved occurs every day in this country, and I fear, in this cogeneration. What will a man give in exchange for his soul?” [emphasis added]

Oh how wrong R.C. Sproul is! Jesus wasn't giving this young man a plan of salvation, he was using the Law the way it was intended to be used, as a measuring stick. Jesus was showing this rich young ruler that NO ONE can obtain salvation through the works of the Law. Pastor Sproul (as does John MacArthur and Ray Comfort) turns this story into a plan of salvation. These heretical false prophets claim that the young man didn't get saved, because he was unwilling to part with his money, to leave all behind in order to become a disciple of Christ. R.C. Sproul gets a big “F” for theology class!
I can once again PROVE that what I am teaching is correct with the Holy Scriptures. Let us continue reading in the Gospel of Mark...
Mark 10:24-27, “And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”
Carefully notice that salvation is “IMPOSSIBLE” with men! That means even if the rich young ruler had forsaken all his wealth, there still would have been something else left undone, because “There is none righteous, no, not one:” (Romans 3:10). Man cannot attain salvation through discipleship. False prophets always talk out of both sides of their mouth. Pastor Sproul one moment talks about God's imputed righteousness (truth), but then the next moment he says that the rich young ruler could have been saved if he simply forsook all his worldly possessions (a lie). Romans 3:19-20, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
Please notice that the PURPOSE of God's Law is to give “THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN,” and not become a disciple! You are so wrong R.C. Sproul. IN YOUR FACE with a big pizza pie! I just made myself hungry for pizza...lol. Okay, I'll be serious again. Dr. R.C. Sproul is pulling on the same rope as the Devil. We need preachers today with backbones, who will tell it like it is, and not these creampuff filled Twinkies who cannot hit the side of a barn with their preaching! Strangely enough, I actually enjoy listening to John MacArthur preach. The man definitely has a backbone, and I like the guy, and he has some amazing insights into the Scriptures, and he rips on false prophets; unfortunately, he is one himself, and is a devil in the pulpit concerning the way of salvation! The big problem is that these men are all corrupted Calvinists, who confuse and combine DISCIPLESHIP with SALVATION (SONSHIP).
As I showed you earlier, R.C. Sproul misinterprets the story of the Rich Young Ruler and Jesus. You don't get saved by forsaking all to become Jesus' disciple. Consider again what Dr. Sproul teaches:
“This man, who moments before enthusiastically came to Jesus, when he saw what it costs to be a disciple, he walked away; not in anger, but in sorrow, because he had great possessions. And he was not willing to trade them in for the pearl of great price. He walked away with his money, and left his souls and the Savior behind.” [emphasis added]
SOURCE: R.C. Sproul, 'The Rich Young Ruler'
Is that what Jesus was doing, trying to convince the rich young ruler to forsake all to make him a disciple? The “pearl of great price” Dr. Sproul is referring to is salvation. Do we have to trade our worldly possessions to get saved? Folks, this is junk theology at its worst! This is what John MacArthur teaches! This is what Jon Piper teaches! This is what Ray Comfort teaches! This is what Kirk Cameron teaches! This is what Paul Washer teaches! Well to Hell with them all in the name of Jesus for preaching “ANOTHER GOSPEL”!!! Galatians 1:8, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” While Harvest Baptist Church on Guam are blessing these false prophets, I am cursing them, because God has cursed them, and I am being cursed by Harvest by their rejection of me. I feel like I'm on a Merry-Go-Round at Six Flags Great America! I love them at Harvest anyway, with all my heart, truly!
I am sad daily not having a local Baptist church to fellowship with, and the biggest and could-be-best church on the island hates me, because I am a truth-teller! Go figure! I am as Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, shunned because of my shining King James Bible only nose that glows brighter than Rudolph's red nose. To be hungry to be loved, and be in love with the truth, and lonely to find companionship, but despised and rejected by a local independent Baptist church that doesn't care about me, is very painful in my soul. Thankfully, Jesus knows how I feel and I can go to Him in prayer. I don't know how, but I am praying and trusting God to work my life out, claiming God's promise in Hebrews 4:15-16, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” I desperately need God's grace right now in my life, to find His mercy, to find grace to help me though my loneliness. My heart is dying inside to be a part of a church family.
Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001) is right, who said that most Christians in church have no idea how hard it is, for someone whose been out of church, to get back into church. Churches should be welcoming to strangers, outcasts and the fallen. If you expect people to come to your church, you're thinking backwards. Dr. Hyles is also so right, who said: “The Christian army is the only army in the world that kills its wounded!” I have learned that firsthand with my painful experience at Harvest Baptist Church on Guam. Oh how they are missing out on God's blessings! I wanted to help them, but they don't want to be helped. They are content being lukewarm. Mrs. Beverly Hyles (1929-2017) is right that men are 1% chivalry, 1% intellect, 1% muscle, and 97% ego! Some of America's fastest growing churches are not actually growing, they are swelling as a rotting corpse, filling up with the world. The Elevation Church in North Carolina is a perfect example of 'The Emerging Church.' People literally bring their pet birds, cats and dogs to church.
I keep watching YouTube videos, looking for places to move, looking at fundamental Baptist churches across the country, but it is difficult to turn one's life upside down to move to a strange place, to meet new people, in an unfamiliar territory, new doctor, new disability case worker, not knowing what to expect, especially when you're doing it all alone by yourself with no wife, and in bodily pain all the time. The thought of moving is daunting, let alone across the ocean again. I admit that I am scared to move. You see, I'm a coward too! I am not a coward when it comes to proclaiming the truth, but I am when it comes to fixing my own life. I simply wouldn't know where to start. The church is where I tell people to start, but I am despised and rejected of men for my stand for THE TRUTH!
